Updated XP drivers for MBP X1600 GPU

Hello,

This has probably been covered before, but I can't locate the post.

Are there any updated Windows XP drivers available for a 2GHz Intel Core Duo 15in MacBook Pro using the Radeon X1600 GPU chipset? And if there are, where can I get them?

I've tried Apple Support and the ATI website, but couldn't find any.

I don't want to overclock the GPU, but I would like fresh drivers if they're available.

Thanks.

In general... notebook display drivers are only provided by the notebook manufacturer due to the fact that there are a number of manufacturer specific components apart from just the GPU. Most GPU manufacturers (ATI/AMD & nVidia) do not provide drivers for notebooks.

When Apple updates BookCamp, you can look through the revision history to see what was changed. It's a good idea to create a new driver disk with BootCamp in OS X when the drivers are updated by Apple... and then boot into Windows and install the updated drivers.

Hi Richard,

I would say that this is the 'oficial' line of support from ATI/AMD to it 😉

You might wanna try this direct download for the latest Mobility Catalyst Driver Package: http://www.ati.com/online/mobilecatalyst/
To use the ATI Control Center you must have the .NET Framework 2.0 from Microsoft installed before:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd -aab15c5e04f5&displaylang=en

Also it may be a good idea to uninstall the 'old' ATI drivers (via Control Panel - Software) before installing the new ones.
And maybe do a 'System Restore Point' before all that.

Good Luck

Stefan

I suppose the question would be... why do you feel you need updated drivers? I haven't seen any comments regarding driver issues using Windows under BootCamp. Are you experiencing a problem with a particular application or game that you are hoping a driver update will resolve?

You can also take a look at the actual page to the file linked above by Fortuny to check out the supported notebook manufacturers:

http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/mobility-xp.html

You may also want to take a look at the release notes:

https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/catalystmobility78.html

It would appear that the driver package will at least check to see if your hardware is supported before installing.
