I just finished dealing with this battle. First the code that was provided to you from Carson (first reply) is crucial to load your flash movie into your website. Follow his instructions and you will easily be able to add flash movies.

Now for creating the content. There is a couple of options. I used iWorks '08 Keynote to create a flash introduction. Basically you can create a slide show with animations and then convert it to Quicktime. You can either use the Quicktime file as a movie insert or convert the Quicktime to a flash file. Please note that the export to flash feature within Keynote will remove alot of your slide transitions and animations. Thus, if you want flash you should export it to Quicktime to keep all transitions and animations. Then you can use Adobe Flash C3 to convert it to flash or any other flash converter software (such as the products sold from the link posted above).

If you want to get a little flashier there is a software called The Ad Creator ( http://www.flashadcreator.com/)
This software has about a 100 templates for flash introductions. It is meant for companies but you can easily adapt it to your personal website by adding photos and changing captions. I just bought it but have not done anything yet on my website.

You can view a sample introduction made from Keynote and then converted to flash on my website.

Hope this helps!

thanks so much for your more than helpful tips and links
your website looks really great and show us what can really be done with iweb
if i choose to export from keynote to quicktime
and upload site
is their a way to transition to next page without having to click
or do i need to either add a hyperlink
or simply insert flash
how about publishing to a folder instead of idisk?
thanks for all of the help

I do not believe there is a way to use Quicktime to automatically forward you to another page after the file plays without doing complex coding. I also do not believe that you can do it within flash very easily. What I did to allow you to click the "enter" button was to put an empty box (within iWeb) over the words "enter". It is invisble but you can add a hyperlink that can take you to the next page (or any page that you want). However, for some reason, Internet Explorer users can not click on the flash file and access the hyperlink I put over the flash file. Therefore, I had to add the link on the bottom.

I would think you would be able to publish to a folder rather than the iDisk but you would be dependant on your network connection (I believe). I would try it and see what you get. You would have to change Carlson's code to the location of your computer folder. Let us know if it worked.

Robert-
It loaded very quickly for me. Nice work. You did all the design in iWeb? It looks great. One thing though. The music did not play over the open flash program. An error popped up that said my computer is not authorized to play "01 Imagine.mp4"

I think the song you have attached was purchased from iTunes Store, no? There is a way to strip the protection so you can play it without viewers needing authorization. I don't know what the legal side has to say about it. But let me know if you'd like the procedure. It's pretty simple.

hi all....
relatively new to iweb and webdesign, but i am an experienced motion graphics designer. i created an awesome little animation in after effects and exported it to an .swf and i followed the instructions in artotems, but all i see when i go to the page, is the code. i have double and triple checked my code, and it should be ok. Am i right to be adding this code to a "shape" in iweb ? or is there a specific place i have to type it in ? if so...i cant find it. Artotems is great help, but some of the instructions dont match. for instance i dont have an "apply" button....and they dont specify "WHERE" to add the code....in iweb ? as html on your idisk ? HELP !!! also...any size restrictions to my flash animation ? its pretty big....1000x563....its about 56 megs.
thanks

balvarez,

My Artotems instructions apply to the new version of iWeb. The code must be added via the HTML Snippet in the Insert Menu. The Apply button is contained in the HMTL Snippet dialogue box. 56 megs is a very large file and will take a great deal of time to load for the viewer but any size file is possible with the instructions I include.

If you have the older version of iWeb I suggest using iWeb Enhancer. It's a great little program.

All the Best

Altartifact,

I've tried your instructions over and over again, with no luck. I do have a good working flash file. iWeb see's it ok. It actually plays ok in my iWeb 08. I can go to actual path that i use in my html snippet code directly through the browser, and it plays there just fine. But after publishing it on my site, I cannot see it on the page I've created the snippet on. I just get a white box. That's strange because the flash I create does have a black background. I thought maybe that it's actually working, but since the box is white, I can't see the white text. However, it plays ok in iWeb as I said. I'm stumped! Help me master flash.
