Epson Status Monitor

The utility for the Epson should be found here:

/Library/Printers/EPSON/LaserPrinter/Utilities/EPSONStatusMonitor.app

If it is not there, reinstalling the Epson package from the install disc should put it back.

I still use my Epson Stylus Colour 740 printer from my OS 8.6 days.

Works a treat with Epson's driver for Tiger.

Although most of the time I use the Gutenprint driver. I can of course switch between the two, if I need Epson's status monitor, but the Gutenprint driver gives more flexible control over the actual printing.

Klaus, this is interesting because in Tiger I've never been able to get my excellent Epson Stylus Color 1160 to work, other than with the GimpPrint driver Apple has included in the bundle. With the GimpPrint driver, the Epson Utility is grayed out, meaning that I have no way to monitor ink levels, etc. What is the Gutenprint driver you're talking about?

Gutenprint is the new name for Gimp. The latest update works well.

As a matter of interest I could never access the Epson driver's status monitor to check ink levels etc or ask it to clean. But I recently had to do an archive and install, which also meant re-installing both the original Epson driver for OS X, and the driver for my Epson Scanner. Now everything works! The trick is to add your printer to the list so that you can choose which driver you are using.

Paramount, Apple never bothered to tell Epson users that if they upgraded to TIger, many perfectly good Epson printers would not work properly and you'd have to buy a new one.

They blame Epson.
