USB not working with plantronics mic

Hi, I just bought a new Macbookpro OX 10.4.10 and have discovered that my Plantronics mic (mic with headset) doesn't work in either USB port. In the pref/audio/input, Plantronics appears as normal and is selected and the headphones works normal but not the mic. Simply no input in the blue bars input meter. Ok, i go back to my older Powerbook and plug in the headset/mic. Works perfect. Switch to new Mac USB and nothing. I change pref to internal mic and that works. I test the Mac's internal line in port and that works. My USB ports work with all other devices I'v tried, mouse, camera, headphones etc, but not the mic. Since the mic works with the Powerbook then there must be something wrong with the new Macbookpro's USB. Can anyone help? ...I went to Plantronics website and all they say is Mac doesn't need a driver, so I'm stuck? Help?

Not sure this will fix it, but try running /Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup and see if you can configure it correctly there (maybe it's muted) - you can set the levels for all audio IO devices using that software.

Hi ivmichael.
Thanks for your help. Yes, right on. It was muted as u suspected. I considered the midi, but ruled out going there, as last time a few years ago, I was there, remembered it to be only for midi devices. Now it has all audio input devices set up too. Great! ...Strange Apple doesn't make the midi/audio devices set up in the system/audio pref.
Mistery as why or how it got muted in the first place. Anyway, that solved the proplem. Thanks!
