I wish I could just dump this piece of garbage and go back to PC. Switching to MAC was the worst decision I've made with a computer. Good ipods does not equal good PCs. Shame really. Now I'm out 1600 dollars and apple is of no help at all.
The only thing I've been able to do is that when I freeze up I have to hard restart then when the desktop comes up I have to manually restart. That prevents further freezing at least for a little while until i have to repeat the process all over again. If I don't use apple menu>restart after a hard restart the thing seizes up as soon as I try to go into an application. None of the patches have helped. Apple-Care is useless, they just keep giving me the same run around. And there is zero on this support website about it.
I think we're all being scammed. Apple has a massive hardware failure on their hands and they are doing everything possible to try and bury it so they don't get hit with an embarrassing recall. Thats my opinion. Just wait for a class action suit and then maybe we will all have a working computer.

Believe me, we wish you'd go back to PC as well - really.
A lot of people like me have gotten these new silver imacs as gifts for school. And I'm not the only one in my area having this problem. 3 of my friends have already returned them, 2 more bought PC laptops instead. Its not the problem itself that is so bad, anyone who uses computers knows these things happen. They are very sensitive piece of equipment. its the fact that Apple is virtually silent on this and seems like they are trying to cover it up. Thats the really discouraging part. I called Apple on this 4 times and each time the guy on the phone said they weren't aware of this problem. Then I come on here and see all these threads with hundreds of replies to them all people having the same problem! How can Apple not be aware!?
Thanks for the update. When I firs looked at the temps, I was shocked but then I realized you had the temperature units set to Fahrenheit. HAHA.
Okay, so here are my temps: CPU A: 92°, GPU 113°, GPU Diode 117°, GPU heatsink 108°, Ambient 72° Memory control 99°, Airport Card 119°, HD Bay 1 110°
After comparing, you're temps are much higher.
Temps KMACR Rick Difference
CPU A 106 90 16°
GPU 128 113 15°
GPU D 128 117 11°
GPU Sink 122 108 14°
Ambient 74 72 2°
Memory 117 99 18°
Airport 142 119 23°
HD Bay 1 131 110 21°
From the looks of it, you're a +10° higher than mine with the exception of the ambient temperature which seems to be the normal average room temperature.
Airport may be high because you're wirelessly connected when I'm wired.
Anyways, maybe those that are crashing a lot temperatures are even higher than yours.
Hmmm... Don't know what to make of this. The good news is you're not locking up hard, just the graphics are freezing. Meaning the issue from the beginning is still the same.
I have been through what all you guys have experienced...Im a fully qualified mac engineer and there is no apparent fix.....I have just got my 3rd iMac....and so far it is fine (please god!).
I went back into my local apple store, ready for a massive argument, and the guy I spoke to had seen the forums and was very understanding.
Although being a new product doesn't excuse apple, and I certainly was having it...it is just plain unfortunate. Apple's acknowledgment gives you the consumer more leverage when going back to the store.
So my advice - don't book an appointment at the genius bar, don't call apple/apple care....take the mac back to the shop and explain what has happened.

Give us all a break please - this same type of comment has been posted on this thread at least 20 times, probably more. How is that 'helpful'? If all someone wants to do is pi$$ and moan about how much better their old Windoze box was, this is NOT the forum.
And Dan, you can't really believe that mine is a Mac only attitude - if you do I'll point you at the Windoze forums I sometimes frequent for help with my work Toshiba.
Believe me when I say everyone knows just how frustrated people with frozen iMacs are. When you pay a premium you expect perfection and performance. I know I do and I don't blame anyone for feeling the way they feel. But please PLEASE don't pop in just to drop a "I was happier before" note bad-mouthing Apple. This is not some generic forum for Mac vs. PC.
