M-Audio Oxygen 49 and GB

I just got an M-Audio Oxygen 49 to use with GB '08. How can I learn how to use the various sliders, knobs and transport controls with Garageband? I can't find anything in M-Audio's or Garageband's documentation about this.

GB apparently does not use standard control codes. this MAY help you:

Hi there, I have exactly the same problem, I can't use the pads, and many of the other knobs that the controller bring. I have found how to solve the problem with the transport, you can find a driver for that in www.muratnkonar.com, but what about the other buttons? I bought this in guitar center and the guy there told me it worked perfectly with GB, what an ***! The thing is I live in Uruguay, and I can't change it now, is there any solution?

There is a 3rd party utility you can use to control transport (Garage Remote), but that's all you'll get. You can't assign the knobs/sliders to other controls. This is a limitation of GarageBand; the only supported control surface is the iControl.
