I bought an iTunes card with a free episode of CSI on it as a bonus for buying that card. It gave me an error message when I entered the code on the back, but it still credited my account. And now when I check for purchases I get the following message
"*Unable to check for purchases*
The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."
I have been able to download songs galore since, but I can't check for purchases. This has been going on over a month. What gives???
This problem is definitely not fixed. I spent about an hour on the phone with support and of course nobody would tell me it was a known problem. I did the uninstall/reinstall thing as well as the other suggested fix of deleting the downloads file and putting the file back. Nothing has worked so far. I have 26 items pending.
Hi readers,
reference to i-Tunes still charging for downloads we have not received.. I feel they have had sufficent time to STOP payments being taken from customers, maybe a good idea is to contact our CREDIT CARD COMPANY and get them to re-charge Apple and to investigate why they continue to charge customers in full knowledge that they have technical proplems with i-tunes...
maybe when they see there bank balance decline they will start to think about the proplem THEY HAVE CAUSED....
I've been working with Apple Support on this and this is the latest response I received (today 11:20am central):
+I understand that you purchased the order number MXXXXXXXXX and still are not able to download the item. I do apologize for the inconvenience. The content is still available in your account and awaiting download, so you should be able to restart the download. However, we are experiencing an overwhelming demand--demand that surpassed even Apple's expectations--the iTunes Store experienced response times that were slower than normal. During that time you may not have been able to sign in to your account, authorize or purchase anything as easily as you normally can.+
+Please check your purchases periodically over the next 48 hours (during non-peak hours, if possible). If after that time you are still experiencing the same error, please reply to this e-mail with the exact text or code of the error you are receiving.+
+I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. I hope the information I have provided helps resolves this matter for you.+
I did a little troubleshooting and was able to successfully download a new song, but just can't download any pending items. I tested checking for purchased items from 2 different computers (one windows and one Mac) on 2 different networks. A quick Google search turns up that this issue is not isolated to USA iTunes, other countries are experiencing this as well. When I get another reply from support I'll post it here...
Mr C, go to this address and follow the easy instructions exactly and your problem will be solved. TIP: be shore you type the words exact and include the space!
I GOT THE ANSWER" to all my itunes dudez. 1st, Got to ur itunes account from itune. 2nd, go down to the put where it say,s
'REST ALL WARNINGS FOR BUYING AND DOWNLOADING MUSIC. "CLICK ON RESET WARNING"
3rd. Go back to up to DOWNLOAD NOW. "CLICK ON IT. I'm downloading my two days old songz now.
Resetting warnings didn't work for me, it only starts working when they clear my pending folder and put the downloads back. I'm telling you, at least in my case, its a bad file transfer on their end. I also get bad file transfers (on my end) when something interrupts my Apple TV from syncing so I assume it can definately happen when transferring from Apple's server to our accounts. Jimmy should be in at 10EST s, hopefully, I can finish downloading this stuff tonight - only 45 things left to download!!!
It's not working for me, either. I tried the suggestion to reset warnings but no joy. I've been trying to check for purchases through the day. Nothing. Not even a single song will start to download.
I've sent three responses to the Apple support I received YESTERDAY telling me it would be fixed in four hours. I guess they've just decided not to bother responding to me anymore.
+This issue has been resolved. Thank you all for your patience as we investigated the situation. Make sure that you update to the latest version of iTunes (7.4.1) and then Check for Purchases from the Store menu in iTunes.+
+Your download(s) should resume as normal now.+

Well Mr. Erlewine I'm still having the same issue so... ???
Well, Dan should come to my house and tell me why nothing has changed. I've had the latest and greatest software (and I've continued to run software update to check), but I STILL cannot download my music.
I notice that they closed that thread to further replies, too.
