How to Read a Mini-CD

One of my software packages was delivered on a Mini-CD disc and I am
not sure it can be read by an iMac. I chickened out on just sticking it in
to see what would happen. Anyone know how to read a Mini-CD with
an iMac?

20" iMac 2.4 GHz-2 GB Intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Hi,

No, the slot loading drive in your iMac does not accept mini-CDs. Do not, I repeat, do not, under any circumstances insert the mini-cd into the optical drive. It will more than likely get stuck and will prove to be a costly repair excercise.

The only alternative that I can think of is to invest in an external drive that can accept mini-cds. Alternatively, perhaps someone you know who has a drive that accepts mini-cds can make a copy for you on a normal size CD.

Those mini cd thingss are poison to slot-loading optical drives. Don't let it near your computer.

I find it puzzling that any software company would be so short-sighted as to send out Macintosh-compatible software on a media form that obviously cannot be used in Mac computers. Is it also available on floppy disks ???

Any company that has legitimate commercial software available on mini-CD will obviously have it on full-sized CD as well.

If you actually paid for the program you call them or email and request another copy on a normal disk.

If the Mini disk is just a free business card or product promo then toss it.

I would say the odds are overwhelming that whatever software that is will not work in your mac anyway, since there hasn't been a trayloading mac drive since the G4 imac. Nobody in their right mind would put Tiger-compatible software on that kind of disc.

I agree that it's odd to put Mac software on a small-sized disc, so it's possible it isn't compatible. Aren't all the PowerMac & Mac Pro drives tray-loading though?
