Can I use a Samsung 226bw monitor with my macbook?

I just bought a Samsung LCD monitor, 226bw. I've got it hooked up to my macbook via the VGA adapter and all I see is the the wallpaper from my macbook, not any of the windows, hard drive icon, etc. The CD that came with the monitor does not have a mac driver (I'm running 10.4.10) and there does not appear to be one on the Samsung site. Do I have to return the monitor or is there a way to fix the problem?

macbook, Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Hit the F7 key. It sounds like you're trying to use the display mirroring mode, but are in extended desktop (the external monitor "adds more space" to your primary display, rather than mirroring it). If that doesn't work, try going to System Preferences and clicking on "Displays". You should see two pictures of displays, one will have a menu bar at the top. Drag the menu bar to the other display and you're all set.
