At work I have an HP Tablet. I want to change the start up tone to the Mac Chime. Where is this file located on my iMac? Or, if I can't get to it, is a file online anywhere.
Check out
MacTracker. It has startup chimes for various Mac models.
To get to the chimes, download the app. Right click on the application icon and choose "Show Package Contents" from the contextual menu. Burrow down through
Contents/Resources/Chimes.
The only other way I can think of to get the sounds would be to hook your computer's audio output to another computer's input, then reboot and record the sound (that's probably how they got those sounds for MacTracker).

The startup sound is hard coded into the boot ROM - you can mute or vary the volume, but you can't change what the startup sound is, since there isn't a file for it. As already mentioned, there are various sources for the startup sound itself.
I've been using Macs since the '80's. My school district is taking away my iBook and giving me an HP. Whatever I can do to make it seem a little more like home, the better.
