Make sure the song files are not in protected format. Right-click, "Get Info," "Options," and set the start and stop times where you want your 15-30 sec clip to be. Click "OK," then play the song to make sure the clip will be as you like it. Right-click the song, "Advanced," "Convert Selection to XXX." That will create a new file with just the 15-30 sec, to use as you wish!

The clip is automatically added to your iTunes library, so you can add it to playlists. It would be worth going into Get Info again and add the word "edit" or "clip" to the title to avoid confusion with the full version.

Then, go back to the full song and remove the start and stop so the full song will play normally.
