My iPod (30 gb. color display, no video) has the same problem. It froze on 0.00, and I couldn't do anything, but leave it until it was totally discharged. Now I can't start it. The apple-logo apperas but is after a while replaced by a sag iPod-logo and a link to the support site.

I have tried the 5 R's, with lot of resets and just about everything else. The great problem seems to be that my computer (tried 3 different), can't discover the iPod.

Before the new update I didn't have any problems and I had lots of battery-time. But now I can't use my iPod at all! Very, very sad since the garantie just has run out.

    Any ideas someone, please?

Sorry for the late reply. But nothing seemed to work, so I brought my iPod to a Mac-store and they told me the harddisk was broken. Great! Repairing would be more expensive than buying a new one, and the iPod was only 2,5 years old.

So I researched a bit more on the internet and found an ugly, but actually working solution: drop the iPod on the floor!!! Read about some pepole having succeeded with it, and since my iPod didn't work at all, I gave it a shot. It actually worked, so now its back up and running... Just saved a lot of money by dropping my iPod. Strange but true.

I too have this problem, IPOD video 30GB. I have read the above comments and would like to tell everyone that it is never a good idea to drop or hit your hard drive. That could very well destroy the internal components for good. I have tried my ipod video hard drive (that doesnt play songs) stuck at 0.00 on another ipod and that hard drive works fine --SO it is NOT the hard drive that is stuck or cannot play. I have also swapped click wheels with a new one, and that does not fix the problem either. It is definately the logic board without a doubt. My guess it is caused by a firmware upgrade. Everything else on the logic board functions correctly. I will try to "downgrade" the firmware to see if it will correct the problem with the logic board. I will post back the results later.

I had the same problem with my 2nd gen nano. After I did a stupid itunes upgrade with my ipod synched, music wouldn't play at all, though the rest of the functions seemed fine and it acted as though it were playing -- but stayed stuck at 0:00.

Perhaps everyone has already tried this, but as a gentler option, rather than throwing your ipod on the floor, turn the ipod off. toggle "hold" back and forth a couple of times. then try holding the menu and select (middle circle) buttons at the same time, until the apple comes up. after that, mine worked fine again. this is called a "reset" apparently (it doesn't erase music or anything). hope it works for you, too!

I just got the same problem, songs and videos stuck at 0:00min. (Guys don't mix this thread up with video-ok-but-no-sound problems) I tried the reset and it worked out perfectly. Thanks for the trick. By the way, I agree that applying force to fixed supposed hard-disk problems is a very very bad idea.

I have got the same problem since yesterday, but it didn't appear immediatelly after iTunes update, but let say approx. 1 day later.
I have tried to reset, and restore, self-diagnose but still not succesfull. I have one thinks to do - downgrade, but I dot now, how to do it. If the downgrade will not be usefull, I am lost and I will have to find someone, who will fix it here in Czech Republic. I will appriciate any clue from you.
