I am assuming that the Express is the only wireless router you have in the system.

Do a factory reset of the Airport Express (disconnect ethernet cable from modem, unplug, paper clip, push button with paper clip, plug back into power, lights will flash and then stabilize, back off on paper clip and then wait until it reinitializes). The Express will then be like it came out of the box - knows nothing of your computer or wireless system). Rebuild your system using a new system name (not your old system name) and new password. Also, what is your internet source, i.e., cable modem, etc. Plug your cable modem into the Express after you reset but before you rebuild your wifi system.

When you say that you are trying to set it up as a non WDS unit what exactly do you mean? Are you trying to attach it to your existing wireless system or are you trying to set up a separate wireless system only with the Express.
