Virus Protection

Hi I just bought my mac last night and am still figuring things out.... I know viruses aren't as much of a threat for macs but they still need virus protection, right? Does it come with virus protection software that I just haven't found yet? If not, can anyone reccommend a good program to me? I think McAfee makes a program for Macs...is it any good? Thanks!

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.4.9)

findingmeego, welcome to Apple Discussions & the Mac community.

There are no known OS X viruses or malware. So you don't really need any virus protection for yourself. However, some Mac users like to install some virus protection to detect a virus/malware that is attached to an incoming email that you might forward to a PC user. However, many (most?) ISPs detect these virus & remove them from email.

Here's a list of some virus software for OS X along with ratings.

Many Mac users like the freeware ClamXav.
