Installing Final Cut Studio on External Hard Drive

I'm Trying to install FCS on my external hdd, but it says that i cannot. I haven't got enough space left on my MBP to have the whole 40GB. Any ways that i can get around it??

15" MacBook Pro 2.16GHz CD - 1GB Ram, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You may be trying to install the apps themselves on the drive-- this is not possible, but don't worry, they're only 4GB. What you CAN do is install the additional content on an external. This is the option you need to be selecting upon installation.

Do a custom install and pay attention to where you put the extras like livetype, motion and soundtrackpro loops and templates. Those are the ones that eat up space. Keep the applications on your system drive and park the other goodies on a secondary drive.
