iTunes 7.4.0.28: OutlookSyncClient.exe crashes when deleting iPhone backup

I just uninstalled iTunes 7.3.2.6 completely. Then I installed 7.4.0.28.

I started iTunes, went to Edit-->Preferences-->iPhone and did two things:

1. cleared sync history
2. deleted my iPhone backup

When I deleted the iPhone backup, I got:

Faulting application OutlookSyncClient.exe, version 7.3.20.0, time stamp 0x46de0df9, faulting module OutlookSyncClient.exe, version 7.3.20.0, time stamp 0x46de0df9, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x000031e9, process id 0x169c, application start time 0x01c7f0947fb270fe.

This is on Windows Vista Ultimate and Outlook 2007.

I hoped this new update to iTunes would help those of us with sync problems, but it looks like we are still stuck. My phone is less than a month old and has never worked correctly - and now the price has dropped which just adds to my pain 😟

Very interesting. I too have had this problem and watched many people drop out of the message board discussions as various fixes have worked for them. I have been working with a very helpful, albeit unsuccessful, Apple tech with no current resolution. I have forwarded all sorts of files and info about my computer so that engineering can try to find a solution.

What I noticed interesting about your post is that you too have a Sony Vaio. I wonder if there is any coincidence among those of us who still have not resolved this issue. In an effort to limit the impact of outside interferences, I have disabled all non-Microsoft apps in the startup/msconfig. Also unsuccessful.

I know the phone syncs b/c it will sync to my wife's HP laptop with WinXP and Outlook 2007, but it does me no good to sync with her calendar/contacts.

I'll post back if there are any new breakthroughs and hope you will do the same.
Thanks!

I am having the same problem ... no matter what I do the OutlookSyncClient bombs every time I try to Sync my iPhone. I re-installed iTunes. I have upgraded i-Tunes. I have re-installed Microsoft Office 2003 Professional. I just want this to work. I have Googled to my heart's content and have found no solution that makes me think my problem will be solved. I am a dog that has been kicked so many times that it just lies there and takes it. [sigh]
