Does anyone have information regarding the recording capabilities of the iPod Classic?
If it is able to record, does anyone have suggestions for doing line-in recording with it? I have microphones and mic-pre's, does anyone know of a hardware solution that simply offers a clean line-in to an iPod? (As this is the iPod Classic forum, feel free to limit replies to solutions that would/should work with the Classic)
According to the online manual, the iPod classic will accept the same iPod microphone and AV kit accessories as the iPod video. You can find the PDF manual at:
I bought a g5 video ipod compatible Belkin Tune-Talk today (microphone) .... It doesn't work.
Virtually no accessories (accept apple-made products) function with the classic. The folks at Belkin said they were blind-sided with this release (i.e. not given any non-disclosure agreement to sign in order to develop new, compatible accessories for a simultaneous roll-out with the new Apple products). So, they are now scrambling at Belkin, as every other vendor is. It will take weeks or months before this mess is sorted out. Even the Apple store "geniuses" were flying in the dark ("yeah go ahead and buy the Tune-talk, the video ipod stuff will work with the classic"), and so was Apple tech support (some nice, but outsourced Indian-sounding fellow answered who had no idea what was going on=deer in the headlights syndrome).
MACNN.com reports that the problem rests with vendor products not being able to establish screen control over the new Apple products. I can confirm that from my own experience.
Now I have to go back to the store and return this useless accessory, which takes time off my life and lowers the joy quotient of purchasing Apple ... and all this simply because somebody in charge of the roll out never thought of informing Apple "geniuses" that accessories are broken (which could have been accomplished through a simple form lettered faxed or e-mailed to each store manager).
I just purchased the Belkin TuneTalk microphone to use with the 80GB iPod Classic.
It does not work.
Belkin redirects to the Apple site for the download and I cannot find it.
Any suggestions?
Thank you.
I just received my Belkin TuneTalk microphone and it works perfectly on my 80gb Classic...I just recorded a 1 hour lecture with it. I'd suggest checking to make sure you have the latest firmware update for the iPod installed--the Belkin website was telling people to upgrade a while back.
I just bought an 80Gb iPod Classic, and I really wish to have a microphone, since I use it a lot (I was very happy with my third generation iPod and the old Belkin F8E462 Voice Recorder, but unfortunately I broke the iPod.. 😟 ).
Now, I read contradictory comments by users, about the Belkin TuneTalk stereo microphone compatibility with the 6th generation ipod (classic). You say it works... anyone else has reports?
I own a XtemeMac MicroMemo for recording on the iPod. I bought it with an "ipod video" way back in 2006. I recently got an iPod Classic for xmas and I am having serious issues recording with it. The most common issue is that it will go into record mode and look like it is recording fine and then I'll come back to stop the recording and find that the iPod turned itself off after 30 seconds. Also that 30 second file has no audio on it, just 30 seconds of silence. I have also had the iPod Classic record all 9 minutes of what I need to record and then find that it too is nothing but silence. I would say that I can get it to work correctly about 1 in 5 times. These are not very reliable odds.
I love how easy it is and how little extra equipment I need to carry around to record lectures for school. I don't want to have to carry around a whole extra device (in addition to my ipod) just to record. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make the iPod Classic as reliable as the iPod Video was for recording?
I feel ripped off because I got this ipod specifically to record with. Now I am stuck with it and don't know what to do if I can't get it recording.
Yes, I did update my ipod classic, several times. I also went through all the forums to make sure my drivers were installed correctly. Still no luck in making it a reliable recording device like the iPod Video.
I emailed XtremeMac about the compatibility of the Micromemo with the iPod classic. They replied, "The MicroMemo for iPod with Video is compatible with the iPod Classic; however, there may be some functionality issues. These issues will not impede the ability to record."
That was in September 2007. I recently noticed that the Micromemo disappeared from their web site, so I emailed them and asked them if it was discontinued. They replied on February 7, 2008, as follows,"I'm afraid our current MicroMemo has been discontinued; however; our engineers are currently hard at work coming up with new products for the new iPods and iPhone. No information on a new MicroMemo have been released yet but it's very possible that we may see one."
Thanks! Didn't think they'd have the manual up yet...should have checked. If anyone knows of more more line-in adaptors (other than Belkin and extrememac) please post.
