outgoing mail server "failed to connect"

Hi,

I'm on ATT/yahoo mail and it tells me the connection to server failed when it tries to send mail (smtp.att.yahoo.com:465).
When i check the settings/mail, the password section has "optional" grayed out in that field. I keep trying to put a password in and can't get it to stick. Could that be the problem since this smtp server works for my computer?

Thanks,
Erika

Most likely this is happening because your mail server blocks the connection if you are not on their network. You can verify this if you have a wifi connection at home. If you can send mail properly when you are on your home wifi but not when using EDGE this is the problem.

I have Time Warner internet which does this, so I have to use GMail as my primary account on the iPhone. With this setup I still can not reply to e-mails sent to my Time Warner account. AT&T has an SMTP server that you can use when on EDGE, ** it only works through edge I have heard. I don't know the server address but I think I saw it on these forums or on AT&T's website.
