Upgraded to itunes 7.4.0.28 tonight, and now it doesnt see Outlook!

So i found out today that apple released the newest version of itunes (7.4.0.28) that will include ringtones for my iphone. i raced home from work to download and install the latest version.

After installing and rebooting, i opened itunes and hooked up my iphone. As it was syncing, i clicked on the "info" tab in itunes under the iphone. In the "calendar" part of the page it says "no supported calendar application can be found". what the heck?? i have outlook installed and it worked before the upgrade! also, under the same "info" tab, where you can select the mail account and contact list source to sync with, outlook isnt an option. my only options now are windows address book and yahoo address book. where did outlook go?

i tried surfing forums, uninstalling and reinstalling, and doing a "repair" on the itunes installation. nothing has worked. itunes has no clue that i have outlook installed now after this upgrade.

HOWEVER, i just read that i have to have outlook 2003 or 2007. i have outlook 2002.

... but it worked before?

any ideas?

thanks in advance,

william

I had the same problem yesterday. No mention that they no longer suport the 2002 version before you make the upgrade. I spent half the day trying to resolve the issue until I finally deleted itunes and installed an older version I found on my hard drive. No I have outlook back but I have to replace all my music files because the library wouldn't load because an error message said that the library was made with a newer version. P.S. I also lost music I paid for. I have an older install version I can email to you if you need it.

hey guys,

Im the original poster here. FYI, i installed office 2007 and now everything seems to be back to normal. i guess the most recent version of itunes doesnt support outlook 2002, which kinda annoys me that they dont warn you before you upgrade. anyhow, anybody else who has this problem, youll have to upgrade to outlook 2003 or outlook 2007 and things will work again.

cheers!

i had the exact same issue. iTunes was working great until i installed the latest version of itunes 7.4 last night. Now iTunes can no longer find Outlook as an option for syncing email, contact, calendar. This is horrible. I spent the better part of 2 hours uninstalling itunes 7.4 and reinstalling older versions of itunes all the way back to 7.3.0. To no avail ... nothing fixes the problem. In any case it was working great until the installation of the 7.4 version which seems to have changed something that I cannot fix.

alpine0000,

Apple Discussions is a user to user support forum. Most of the people who post here do so voluntarily, including myself. If you would like to send feedback to Apple in regards to a feature request, or issue you see with Apple Hardware or Software the link is:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/

For the iPhone specifically it is linked from that page to this link:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Personally, I can understand your frustration. I have been in similiar situations with hardware or software in the past dealing with hardware from other companies.

The system requirements for the iPhone syncing contacts with Outlook do state Outlook 2003 or 2007, and can be viewed here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305703

Unsupported configurations may work for some people, but may also have issues that can not be resolved. Outlook 2002 was not a supported configuration.

However, Windows Address Book on Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista is supported, and you may be able to export your contacts from Outlook to Windows Address Book.

Hope this helps,

Nathan C.

Hi Alpine - and everybody else (especially the guys from Apple)

I have the same problem as Alpine, however, i have XP Pro with Outlook 2003 installed. When I upgraded, all the update fields on the "info" pane are suddenly blank, and the calendar area simply states No Supported Calendar Application Can Be Found.

I've followed the instructions for reinstall and everything, and even after I rolled back to an earlier version of Itunes, the problem still exists...

What is happening?

Hope somebody has a clue,
Much appreciated,

FAB
