Honest opinion on the iphone

due to this new "price drop" im considering getting an iphone. im a student and couldnt get myself to spend $600 on a phone but now its a little more manageable. i cant really comprehend what the iphone actually has wrong with it. it seems like the people who talk bad about it are the people who dont have one. i need to know the truth about what works and what doesnt. i have a mac so i dont have to deal with that crappy windows corresponding junk.

i just wanna know from people that actually have one. i hear about all these "problems" and it makes me a little weary. ive been to the store and played with the phone many times and it seems really amazing.

so i guess the real question is... is it worth it???

and when you are texting can you turn the phone and have the keyboard horizontal while composing texts??

I bought the iPhone 3 weeks ago. I paid $599 without regrets and even now that it is cheaper I still love it. It still does all the same things it did before. I would be ****** if they had dropped the price and remove some features.

With that said, the phone is not perfect. Nothing in life is, but this gadget is **** close to it. I switched from a Treo, I miss some of the features my Treo had but what the iPhone offers in exchange helped me forget those pretty soon.

EDGE is slow but it is not painfully slow like some people are experiencing. I am in Los Angeles, I don't know if the service here is better perhaps. I have had not dropped calls at all. Sure, you need a few more steps to make a call; all which take you a whole 1/2 second. Big Deal.

The internet had no flash, etc, etc. Have you tried surfing the internet in a Treo? I'll take an iPhone anyday with my eyes closed. There might be better phones out there but I could only compare it with the Treo I had for 2 years.

The iPhone wins 100%.

The Edge network is a limit of AT&T. If you live in a city with a lot of WiFi hotspots, no biggie, I would think.

One thing is for sure, things are gonna get better and cheaper, but that is true at any point in time. If you need it/want it/can afford it (or any two of those three), then the time to get it is now.

Just don't be sorry when that better/cheaper option comes along, as it most certainly will.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

Edit: Oops! This started off as a reply to FASTFURY, but ended up addressing daftpunk (who really doesn't sound so daft to me). Sorry 'bout that.

I think iPhone is realy a dream gadget for people always on the move.

The Google Map is very nice feature. Type in an address or even find a contact's address, just a few tabs you are in there. Also when you are searching for any business, the Safari works well with the Google Map. Once you locate the target store or restaurant, tap on the phone number link and you are calling them already.

Another cool thing is YouTube. The speed is etiquette even via EDGE. The Featured and Daily selections are enough for time killing.

Things I don't like:

1. No Voice Dialing- iPhone supports Bluetooth 2.0 therefore a voice dialing or even voice command should be essential. Especially there is no "key" or "button" for you to press. iPhone is a very visual-oriented device, which makes dialing someone while driving on the road more difficult and dangerous. Apple claimed that the user can use the carrier's voice dialing service, but then you still have to pull your phone out and dial the *8 or whetever. Bottom line is you have to look at it while you are doing anything.

2. No access to battery compartment... hence you cannot buy a spare battery to keep you going if you are on the move 24x7.

3. Nevigation between each functional areas could be smoothier. Say if you are inside Contact editing the address, most likely you will tab on the address by mistake and you will be taken to the GoogleMap. To go back you have to press the Smart button to exit to the main screen and then re-enter the Contact area.

4. No hand-writing notes. I thought the coolest about touch-screen is you can do graffiti or draw a small picture, then send it as MMS- another feature iPhone misses- you cannot do MMS on iPhone.

I still believe this device is top-notched innovation.
But the fact that Apple slashed the price by 1/3 in less than 3 months really got me scared. This will definitely hurt their future product releases.

THE BEST DEVICE BY FAR I HAVE EVER OWNED!!!!!
No one will ever come close to this creation.
No parts to break. Clearly the most innovative gadget.
Snap quick photos, sort out many contact list, look up food joints or what have you,
DO IT ALL except edit files store them and transfer them. But really wanting to edit files on a small device is stupid. If I could transfer a portfolio to my interviewer via bluetooth file transfer from my iPhone ... I could be a happy camper.

All in all this thing is BAD ARSE.
Go on out and Get one.

You would be a fool not.

I bought it at $599 and thought it the slickest toy I've ever owned. Now that I will be getting $100 back I like it even more. Edge is slower than wifi, but it is, in most cases, fast enough. Overall, I think its faster than dialup, and is fine unless you are trying to review detailed web pages with lots of graphics. Then it does slow down. Its sweet to be able to pick up email out in the middle of nowhere ande email, stocks, weather all come through very quickly..

It was worth it at $599, it will be worth it at $399. Go to an Apple store. Play with one and have them show you the features. No one else can tell you (best) what to do. As for me, I love it. The only (major) downside is that AT&T's Edge network needs to be quicker. I lot of the complaining you see is that people keep making the mistake of comparing the iPhone with a computer.

Good luck

If you are a student do not do it.

Things it can not do (now).

Have you ever used itunes? The limitations are imediatly obvious. If you can't do it through itunes you can not do it. So that means, no file transfers you cannot edit word docs, or any other that I am aware of. What you put on your phone STAYS ON YOUR PHONE, and it DOES NOT PLAY FLASH so you are missing a lot of the internets content despite the trick advertisement.

It is semi fragile.

Wifi is slightly slower than my pc's like 20% or so. Edge varies wildly which may account for the varied praises and complaints. But when it is slow, it is slower than 14,400, and as someone else said, makes you want to throw it.

Looking back to school. I can not think of many uses for it. Well the calendar feature would be quite usefull and works pretty well. It has the note feature but you can not use it for anything off your phone that I am aware of. So you would have to re-type anything there if you needed to re-use it. As far as I can see you need a portable media player, a PDA (iphone is not for sure), and a cell phone. As of yet no one has successfully married the three together.

So it really comes down to what features can you live without, not all the hype of what it can do. They all lack something that another one has.. Maybe next year eh?

AT&T service is supreme here in central Oh. I can use it in my basement. I had verizon and it was not so good.

The Plan is the best that I know of, 60 bucks. look to t mobile for the next best deal.

Would I buy mine again?.....not sure, after three months I have worked around most of it's short comings. But every time I get the Blue Cube of Insanity I get po'd ( and usually end up here looking for information about the issue, read posts get more p.o'd).

Just a couple of examples.
My wifes sons are in a soccer league this year but she can't read the page (on her phone) because of this flash issue. I know they said no flash but until you see how many web sites use it, well it doesn't sink in. I was trying to look at a new motherboard at the ASUS site and couldn't get past the first page..

If you make the plunge you can't say you weren't warned.

Warning this post will dissapear in 5 minutes or less...

I have been using iPhone for 2 months.

Beside the shocking price drop..., I am very happy with iPhone.

You can do very basic things you do with your computer using iPhone, such as web brawsing, email, notes. I am telling people that it is a little computer.

Things I enjoy:
1) taking picture of my kids and email to my parents.
2) checking email
3) web brawsing (it's slow but it's not bad)
4) taking notes (not available in iPod)
5) iPod + phone (one less item from my pocket)

Things I wish:
1) can Home key be a touch key instead of a physical key?
2) moving text showing the long name of songs...? (this can be found in most cell phone)
3) Horizontal keyboard for email.
4) Using iPhone as external disk...
5) way to copy and paste text.

Ok, I may be a little late, but I just wanted to comment.

I am one of the early adopters who purchased the iphone at $599 and have no regrets. We all knew the price would drop, it was just sooner than later. The $100 kick back is a good gesture from apple. This was actually my first apple product and I am now an apple fan.

What I love about the iphone is the internet and ipod features. It's actually a mini computer on the go. I'm not a phone person, but this week I had to use the phone features more that normal and found that it is excellent as well. The feature to place a call on hold and answer or end is great. The ability to swap, add another caller, join a second caller to the first call etc, and conference was the best. I am sold even more on the iphone.

I previously had two Palm Treo's and find that the iphone tops it hands down. The only thing that I miss from the Treo is the ability to send SMS to mulitple persons, and the ability to cut and paste. With iphone if you have to send two people the same message, you need to type it all out twice.

Edge is not that bad, it is slower that wi-fi but a lot of places have wifi now, and if you are in an area that has it, it will pop up for you to choose a network to join.

Maps, CLock, CAlc, and Notes are what I use daily and are very convenient.

I would suggest you get the podcast "Today in iphone" and 'iCali', to learn all of the little tricks of the iphone, and you will enjoy the iphoen even more.

At $399 now, it is a steal..

, , and still feels it was worth it.
