AMEX...maybe a credit for $200

I just spoke to an AMEX claims person who told me that they will most likely credit my account the difference between the price I paid and the current selling price. I bought my iPhone only 43 days ago and it just seems right that they (AMEX)honor the price protection service that I pay for.(I have a Platinum card so I am not sure if that increases the likelyhood of a credit or not)
I do not think that Apple did anything wrong in lowering the price, as they have every right to do so. The only thing I would be a little mad about is if they offer a 16 GB phone too soon, as I would have bought one if I could have.

We often are quick to get mad, but think about it, if you were happy with the phone 4 days ago and were able to pay for it when you did, why be unhappy now.

I do think that by paying alot for the phone, we were hoping for exclusivity to some degree, being some of the few that had one. Now perhaps there will be someone sitting next to us with one just like ours! The horror! At least we will have a person to talk to about issues and the great phone that it is that we can look in the eye, rather then typing too much to this discussion list.

WEll Carl, I simply asked the women if she was aware of the issue with the iPhone and she told me that she was and had handled a number of claims already. She seemed very positive and took my info, gave me a claim # and said it might take a few weeks to recieve a credit. It is worth a try. If i recieve the $ I will not apply for the credit from Apple. Seems wrong to do so..
I also figure that as I was saying before, I feel that even if I only get the $100 back it was worth the $ to have been the guy with the cool phone for a month and a half..(now I am just the guy who paid too much for that old iPhone..lol)

Carl Says:Hey! I actually bought 2 iphones with my AMEX platinum as well, around July 5th. So have they told you for sure you will be getting a credit? who did you exactly talk to in the claims department? how did you word your issue? Thanks in advance.

I have the Gold card, and I just called them couple mins ago, a lady filed my claim( I bought 3 iPhones). As soon as I mention I bought something for $200 more 2 months ago, she asked "are you talking about the iPhone?" So I guess many ppl already called them. She said it is gonna take 2 weeks, so I guess now we would just have to wait and see....
By the way, thanks for sharing this information!!

I admire your attitude.

It's funny, though, because some people have said they wouldn't have been as mad at the price decrease if there had been a 16 GB phone that sold at the old price-point of the 8 GB one.

It just goes to show that it is impossible to please everyone.

Different strokes for different folks.

I just wish I could use an iPhone. No AT&T out here in the Nebraska cornfields.

Good luck, and happy iPhoning.
