it doesnt do playlists, i also would like it by playlist

because of the artist/playlist issue, i dont even use coverflow, the only benifit that it has atm, is increased size over my 5G 60GB. if i would have known that coverflow was EXTREMLY limited, i probally wouldnt have gotten the 6Gen

So if I have a bunch of songs with the same album cover picture on it and have the same artist but change the album title on each song will all the songs show up when I click the album picture or will there be multiple pictures with only one song on each one?

I was able to sort coverflow by album by changing the artist names to the album name.

For example, my Rhino 70's box set has 7 discs and 150+ artists. It showed up on coverflow as 150+ album covers. A real drag.

I highlighted all of the songs in the set and opened the dialog box to change multiple song entries. From there I renamed the artist to "Rhino 70's Box Set", and cleared the multiple disc box. When I clicked OK I ended up with one album cover for the whole set. I entertained the idea of adding the artist names to each individual song so they would show up on playback, but that seemed way too anal for me 🙂

BTW, I did the same single disc designation for all of my box sets, consolidating all of the discs under one cover. Works for me.

i think your in the wrong section, were talking about coverflow on the iPod, which doesnt have a setting and doesnt show a playlist,, it shows the entire contents of the iPod's Music. At the moment there is no option to display certian playlists, let alone smart playlists. so i doubt that link helped you in regards to the iPod

i have alot of smart playlists myself, none show on the iPod at all. just the entire catalog

Its just amazingly inconvenient to browse through Coverflow if not sorted by Album.
It also creates a lot of clutter by duplicating album artworks!
As people have mentioned before, not having Coverflow once u get into ur playlists and other sub-menus too is a big damper!
As it stands now, Coverflow is useless to me with my 40 gb of music!

I would like to see Album sorted Coverflow at the earliest! i just cant understand why would Apple think sorting by artist was a better idea?? and if yes..why could we not be given the option to change this ridiculous default!

Apple, please fix this ASAP!
thnx

i rarely use coverflow *If At All* other then to show people that it can do coverflow.

but i agree, coverflow is worthless as it stands unless a persons collection consists of albums by a single artist, instead of alot of soundtracks/mix's

i wil admit a majority of my coverflow issues are with the South By SouthWest 2006/2007 releaces/Soundtracks/OCRemix i could theoryetically change teh artist to the album name,, but that would basically be gimping the artist out of credit, instead where i can sort by album

I don't see how you can call coverflow worthless. Just rename the artists to whatever common name you prefer, add the artist name to the song name if you like, and rock on man. Either that or don't use the feature until they fix it.

I don't get all the ******** about this issue. There's a way around it if you choose, that allows you to see the album with the art work and all of the artists grouped together. Of course many compilations have no art work available anyway, so whatever (at least a lot of mine don't).

The point is it's a great feature that's fun to use. It may not be perfect, but you know it's also not required for listening to your music.

i know its not required, and i know i could rename the artist on about 4K songs to the album, thats not the point

i am waiting for Apple to fix it ( if they even do ), but in its current state, its not useable, im not getting all Miffy about the issue, im just not using coverflow and my opinion of it being worthless is obviously different then yours, but thats why its my opinion

I don't get it, aren't most of your songs on sngle artist albums? Or are you saying you have 4,000 one off songs? You are aware that single artist albums show up as one cover right?

The only issue I've seen with coverflow is sorting by artist name, which leads to compilations containing various artists to show as individual albums with cover art. Now if you have lots of these types of albums I can see how renaming might be considered a hassle. For me it just takes an extra minute or so to select the entire group of songs, make group changes as needed, and move on.

It really doesn't matter if your'e all miffy about this issue or not. I agree it's a personal preference issue or matter of opinion.

What I'm seeing here is a lot of people piling on an issue and many of them expressing a desire to return their unit as somehow "defective" due to this issue (all or in part). To me that's just nuts. My ipod performs just the way apple's web site said it would. It has the features I expected based on what I read. I sure don't recal any claim being made about the response time on the interface, the way it sorts my music in coverflow, or any other of the many "performance" issues I've been reading here.

The bottom line remains, it's an awesome little device. If you can find a better one, go for it. And let us all know about it to boot.
