I'm sorry, but I absolutely disagree. CoverFlow IS "broken" in its current state. They marketed this round of iPods as being able to handle CoverFlow as iTunes does. They don't. That's the end of the story. The compilation issue needs to be fixed because having a Decades Box set show up 300+ times in your CoverFlow is ridiculous. And renaming all the artists to something like "60's Hits" defeats the whole appeal of the iPod's amazing sorting techniques. You do a rename and then when you go to Joe Cocker you're not going to get any of the songs from the set because you changed his name. I know that this is a small detail and it will be worked out, but I think it's a little saddening to see you say "stop their cryin'". Don't you want the product that you paid for?

I did as suggested (change "artist" to a common, album name). However,
I had some trouble doing this. Perhaps it was operator-error. What i did find that worked was to change the multiple "artists" to a single one BEFORE importing that album into my library. Changing the artist list after importation into my library didn't seem to work. Again, I might have mucked up some intervening steps... ...perhaps both procedures work. But i know for sure that changing artists prior to library importation works.

Selecting all tracks and assigning them to a 'compilation' did not work for me.

I have neither the 3G iPod nano nor the iPod Classic, both of which seem to be afflicted by this ... (ahem!) "discrepancy" ... between how coverflow works in iTunes and how it works (or doesn't) on both these new iPods. However, I have been contemplating buying either of them, because my iPod Photo doesn't support gapless playback, and I have resolved to hold on to my money until these discrepancies are removed. Can anybody tell me whether Apple are an Apple Customer Care rep has even acknowledge these discrepancies, or attributed them to user ineptness? It seems that the iPod Touch's coverflow functions more like iTunes'.

Thanks,
Richard

It seems to me that Coverflow should be based on both the Artist Name and the Album name.

I am having a problem with like Album Names showing up in muiltple artists. For example. Boyz II Men has an album called Evolution and Martina Mcbride has an album called Evolution. In coverflow, when you view the Boyz II Men album called Evolution it shows the songs from the Martina McBride album(Evolution) and visa versa. And since almost every artist has an album called Greatest Hits, The Best Of, etc.. you can see were this would be a problem.

Thanks,
Matthew.

Problem with this is when you have an album predominantly by one artist with just a couple of songs where they may have a 'guest' singer.
This is not a compilation so I don't want to mark it as such. However with coverflow being sorted by artist I get the album appearing numerous times instead of just once.
After all this is COVERflow, not ARTISTflow!

I've never had that problem personally. Ever since my first iPod, when I enter a "Best of" or a "Greatest Hits" album, I enter them like "Best of (Artist)" or "Greatest Hits: (Artist)"

I enter them that way so that all the "Best of's" are grouped together under the "B's" and all the "Greatest Hits" are grouped together under the "G's" yet each album has it's own entry.

I've got a slightly different issues. On iTunes, Coverflow sorts correctly (by artist, album, etc.). When I sync to my ipod, the sort order does not change. I want Coverflow sorted by artist but for some reason a few albums don't get sorted correctly. A few discs from two compilations (Ornettte Coleman and David Bowie) appear at the end, after the U2 albums on my iPod. I've tried resynching but cant' seem to fix the problem. Has anyone else encountered the same problem, and if so, is there a solution?

Select all tracks in the album, right click get info then mark as compilation. it's that simple. unfortunately i did spend about an hour working this out.

Coverflow really needs to be sorted by Album, and each album organized by "Album Artist." The current system eliminates all value of coverflow. I have multiple copies of album artwork for each artist on the album, rather than the "Album Artist"

My current problem is that if I search the music on my iPod by artist, I get each artist listed separately on a single album, even if it's just a featuring artist. If I choose the album artist from this list, only the songs on the album in which they are directly credited as "Artist" of the song. So if I want to listen to all of "Born to Run," by Bruce Springsteen, I have to search by album or by coverflow because some songs are under "Bruce Springsteen" and some are under "Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band". It's really inconvenient.

I know that I could make these into compilations to help with my problems, but coverflow puts the compilations at the end of the list in the iPod instead of alphabetically by Album Artist.

I've also tried to change the "Sort Artist" and "Sort Album Artist" options for songs, but I've only succeeded in getting multiple listings under artists.

ITunes forgets about people that want to have organized music and who want to listen to whole albums. Some people still know how to enjoy music. PLEASE fix these organization problems. I'm slightly obsessive compulsive when it comes to music organization, and I've given up trying to work my way around the faulty system.

Another problem with that is for us who use third-party software such as MediaMonkey, there is not compilation field to check off which then means that all the hard work in organizing our media files is wasted.

By the same token, the other side is as follows: All the hard work Apple put into coverflow is wasted since it does not organize exactly as iTunes making coverflow useless.

I know that I've disabled it because it really looks good but doesn't served any purpose. At least not yet? Are you listening, Apple?
