Can't import clips from Panasonic SDR-H18

I am not familiar with that camera, but in general, you should drag all the files from your camera into the computer, including the control files. Then you can import into iMovie 08.

.MOD files are MPEG-2 format and iMovie 7 can only import them directly from the camera. iMovie 7 doesn't know how to import directly from the file.

I am getting a similar message when I try to drag my files from my canon dv camera. "Quicktime couldn't parse it: -50" is the error message I get. Have you figured out a way to import yet?

Just purchased the SDR-H18 today and have had no problems with iMovie 08. I hooked up the camera and it loaded as an external Hard Drive. I then loaded iMovie and it went right to the import window. It saw the recorded movies and imported without any problems.

Maybe I'm missing something here but why aren't you using the im08 import from camera option.

I was frustrated at first too, using iMovie 08 and its recent software update, and not having the camera recognized by iMovie. But if you quit iMovie, plug in the camera, see it show up in the finder, and then open iMovie 08, it works perfectly.

Make sure you press the joystick button on the camcorder if the Access PC light is not on, and make sure the camcorder mounts in the finder before opening iMovie. Since doing it that way, I've been able to connect the camcorder with iMovie open, and it now goes to the import window.

Hopes this helps folks wondering if this camcorder works with iMovie 08. I couldn't find anything online yet confirming this.
