"network connection timed out" Vista issue

i just recently purchased a new computer and tried tonight to instal itunes. the instalation went perfectly but when i tried to access the itunes store a window came up saying "itunes can not connect to the itunes store. the network connection timed out."

i have absolutely no idea how to fix this as i am not too entirely compter-savvy. i dont have a clue what this means. please help!

There are a number of things you can check. (Please know that Vista requires ALOT of permission...so it may not be Apple's fault.)

Did you turn off your firewall and anti-virus software when you installed iTunes? If not, the first thing to check is your firewall to make sure iTunes is permitted. To do so, double click on your internet protection software and then figure out how to make sure iTunes is "permitted". Post back if you need help.

If this isn't the problem, then you probably have a Vista permission problem--post back and I'll try to help you through this.
