Iphone stuck in recovery (1002)

Help,

Waited a long time for my Iphone to arrive and now i have it it has a problem.
When I connect it to Itunes I get the message that the repair mode is active
and that it needs to be repaired before I can continue.
When I d that, everything goes okay untill the firmware restore.
It runs firmware restore but after 5 minutes I get the message that Itunes cannot restore-repair firmware, error 1002.
Phone stays in recovery mode.
Does anyone know how to solve this.
No hacks or cracks or jailbreaks has been launched to the phone, this was the first time I connect it.
I tryed this on a Windows XP laptop and a Apple powerbook, both the same message.
As i live in Amsterdam, it is a bit of a problem to go to an Apple store . .

PLEASE SOMEONE . . . HELP ME !!!!

Hey ,

Thanks for you reply,
But this Iphone was sealed and unused, even the phone protection was untouched.
The guy who unlocks these phones does it this way, all the time.
He demonstrated this to me with another brand new Iphone, which worked very well.
He never had this problem before . .

Any additional suggestions ?

Thanks,

Michael

The iPhone has only been released in the U.S. Activating it anywhere else in the world requires hacking the phone. That is what "the guy who unlocks these phones" is doing...he is hacking the phone.

Unfortunately, while these activation hacks worked previously, iTunes 7.4 has changed that. It has been reported extensively that these hacks can now cause the iPhone to "brick" (become nonfunctional) when used with iTunes 7.4.

I suggest you contact the person who told you how to unlock the phone and get his advice on how to unbrick your phone.

Hello Again,

Correct me if I am mistaken .

To activate an Iphone I ( or he ) must :
1. connect it to itunes and update to latest version ?
2. activate it by using the normal or the hack procedure ?

When I switched on the iphone, before this drama, it was working.
Display showed the earth and was asking to connect to Itunes . .
Emergency calls possible . . .

But anyway,

Can this problem be corrected somehowe ?
Downgrading to a previous version ?

Or do I just have one very expencive brick in pocket . .

Thanks,

Michael

It might work someday when the service is released in .NL, but I doubt that will work either. I would expect country specific versions of the phone to be released, depending upon what kind of deals can be worked out with carriers in each country, or at least the EU.

Yes, You have one very expencive brick in your pocket . .

There are two ways to activate the iPhone:

1. Be a U.S. customer who connects the phone to iTunes and activates the usual way.

2. Hack the iPhone to permit use of the non-phone features. The iPhone will not be able to be used as a phone. Essentially, you will have something identical to the new iPod touch.

Obviously, only #1 was intended by Apple.

#2 worked for a while, but we now know that the methods used to do that seem to be at odds with iTunes 7.4, resulting in bricked iPhones.

Unfortunately, your phone may be permanently bricked. I suggest that you talk to your friend who showed you how to activate it and see if he can help you fix it.

There are also many iPhone user websites where these things are discussed in great detail, but discussing them further on this official Apple website is against the Terms of Use.

Hey Guys,

Yes indeed, this is a brand new Iphone, but after talking to my Unlock friend I found out the the sequence was as follows:

1 Jailbreak.
2 Update with Itunes to 1.0.2
3 Stuck in 1002

My guess is that there went something wrong with the Jailbreak, and that the soft that he used for this is blocking the update.
But when it is possible to install softare into a phone then there must be a way of removing it.
But that is the big question . . . . . how ???

I'f tryed many versions of software available on the internet but everyone ends up with the same result . . . stuck in 1002.
I even disconnected the main battery for 24hrs but no result 😟

But there is light at the end of the tunnel, I talked to the Iphone helpdesk by phone, and the guy who I was talking to said that this has happend before.
I did not mention the Jailbreak offcourse, he suggested to return the Iphone the the Apple store . . .

But as I life in Amsterdam . . . this will be difficult.

So the question remains . . how can I ( we ) remove this software and restore the phone again . . . ????

I hope that some Apple Genious is reading this and comes up with a solution . .

Well yes, it feels good to hack something . . if it was me who is the hacker.
Ergo, it wasn't me but someone else who bricked my phone.
But hey . . . it's all in the game, a hacker or the owner of the must be aware that this can happen . .

I'll try the trick issued by artpics, let's see what happends and if this won't work, and I will report if or if not, then I must wait for a tool to flash the firmware so I can undo this.

Again thanks al for your help and " helpfull " comments . .
