Ichat "Failed to Respond" Problem

Ok so I just got my internet hooked up at school, it's comcast, with a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router

Whenever I try and video chat with my family in Miami, it always says "Ichat Couldn't Work because Zach Grossman Failed to Respond" (zach grossman is me btw)

I have great connection, so does my family, but this isn't working and I really want to talk to them over ichat

Any Ideas? I really appreciate any help. Thanks a lot.

I have the same problem. I had a computer wiz friend of mine run a scan and he says that somehting is blocking it halfway between us?
And I see lots of Forum post on -8 faults but that have pages of code and connection logs.
What happen to the simple Mac, click and your connected idea?
Someone must have made a program that fixes this and opens the right ports and such.
My wife and I are half a world away and ichat is the only means of seeing each other.
Please help.
Thanks

Hi,

Depending on what is in the Error 8 log will point to what needs changing.

Starting with the Mac Firewall if ON the ports iChat uses need to be entered as there is no preset.
http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page4.html#_mactodo

In System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming
It needs to be set to 1.5Mbps. (Automatic does not work properly and can sometimes be error 8)

In your router and modem the ports need to be opened or allowed.

If you do have separate devices they have to be configure properly.
(Cobbled together networks work for Web browsing and mail but iChat needs the LAN networked correctly - even then it can be fussy)

Your ISP may offer a VoIP service which means they may block ports.

Vonage type adapters also have to be placed in the right palce on your LAN (Not in line)
