ipod classic 80g or ipod video 80gb???

I need to upgrade to the 80gb model because i have no space left on my 30gb video ipod. I was just wondering, reading all of these bad reviews on the new ipod classic, if i should get the older ipod video or the new ipod classic?

thanks!!

MBP (3 GB RAM, 120 GB hard drive, 2.33 GHz); 30 GB iPod Video; AX, Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Re: price of old & new -

You should be able to easily find 5.5G 80GB iPods on eBay and other suppliers, at a substantial discount over the original price.

Normally, you'd expect an older model with the (more or less) same features to be lower priced than the newer model.

Exception: If the new Classic turns out to be a Lemon, then many will be trying to buy up the 5.5G versions !

I would be surprised if you could find any new 5G iPods with video at this late date.

The question is: Should you get a 5.5G 80GB or a 6G 80 GB ?

The known-to-be-good 5.5G iPods are still plentiful on eBay and through various sellers.

The controversial (as of now) 6G iPods are becoming available through various sellers.

I, too, am struggling with this question. I will post here when I make a decision...

There was an additional important video upgrade starting with generation 5.5 which was hardware support for H.264 codec. However, moving to generation 6 we lost the video output from the headphone jack and generic docks, current 5.5 game support, some accessory compatibilities, etc. While I believe the HD size and battery life are worthwhile trade-offs I am holding on to my 30GB as well for a while.
