Text in Safari is jumbled and overlapping

The text when I view certain pages in Safari is jumbled and overlapping. It happens all the time when I visit apple.com and various other sites. I am concerned and very aggravated b/c I really don't want to start having to use Firefox instead. Can anyone please help me find a solution?

macbook pro, Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I understand your frustration. Here's how I solves the same problem:
1) Locate your Font Book file in your Application folder and open.
2) Find the font that most closely resembles the wacky font that you have. Mine was "Jungle". Move your cursor over the font.
3) Go to edit on the toolbar, then click on "disable..(font name)..family". This turns the font off.
4) Close the window and quit Safari.
5) Re-open Safari
6) If no change in the text, find another font that resembles it and disable that.

It worked for me. Good luck!
