Can DVD player play .mov files?

I would like to make a DVD that can play in any DVD player from a .mov file made in Quicktime. Should I just burn the .mov file? Should I export mpeg-4? Will DVD players play mpeg-4? What type files do DVD players play? Thanks.

To play in DVD players, you would require a DVD authoring program.
You can't just put (for example .mov file) onto DVD you have to convert them in order for your player to view it.
If you have a DVD authoring program (for E.G iDvd), you could simply import the file .mov and this will convert the file/s before finalizing for DVD. When the DVD is finalized the files become mainly Vob files.

This is how I have been doing it. Converting to mpeg first and using Windows Movie Maker. But doesn't converting to mpeg lose a lot of resolution? I see that my original files were nearly 1 Gig and the mpeg files after conversion are 287 Megabytes! My Kodak V570 camera connects to my TV and plays the .mov files, in fact it plays the jpegs and the mov files in order as taken by the camera and shows it on the TV. Can't someone do some software that will allow a DVD player to do this? I don't want to keep buying more memory cards but hate to wipe them and lose ability to play the files.
