Drivers for Apple USB-modem (to be used for Windows within Parallels)

Hi,

Is there a place where I can download the windows drivers for Apple USB modem?

I need windows software for my work and so I use Windows XP Pro SP2 within Parallels. When I connect the Apple USB modem, the Windows virtual machine recognises correctly the "new hardware" and wants to install drivers for it. Where do I get these drivers? Or is there any other way to make it work within windows environment?

I contacted Parallels also but so far no answer from them.

Thank you

All drivers used by Parallels are provided through Parallels Tools or Windows. You will need to go to Parallels' support for help with this. The Apple Discussions do not provide support for third-party products.

D.M.

You should be able to create a BootCamp Driver Installation CD from the BootCamp utility and then simply point a Windows install to the CD to locate the drivers, you shouldn't be required to actually extract the driver from anything. (At least this was true with previous versions of BootCamp, granted, I haven't touched a Modem in years but it worked for Keyboards/Mice/Video...)

Please also do keep in mind that BootCamp is not, at current, a supported Apple product and therefore support resources, such as specific documentation, may not be available for it.

Hi David,

Thank you for your answer, I was aware of that but was concerned that windows might not be able to "pick up" the right thing and so I though to "offer it" ready made so to speak.

Anyhow, Parallels Team returned my email with their solution to the problem which I am posting bellow for the benefit of other Mac users that might need it.

This article explains the use of Apple USB modem in Parallels Desktop:

This is for Kappy!

Sir, with all due respect, should have not been for Parallels and/or VWware, I would still have to use 2 laptops, one for work and the other one for private matters. I can tell you that it is much, much better to have everything in one machine only. To me, as perhaps many others, any so called third party solution that allows for more use of the Mac OS platform, only increases the pleasure & efficiency of using a Mac. And these forums are to help us, Mac users to get more of our systems and machines so that we can concetrate on the main issues and also to enjoy computing.

By answering to questions like mine in a "black & white" style, you might cause some users into thinking that Mac platform is a very limited one and above all, that no answer can be had from these forums. As a result they might feel that going back to the "windows" will offer them "more options".

As a "moderator" if you are one, I feel it would be more important to "make light" rather that "cut the light". If you are not a moderator, thank you for the time you took to answer my question.

All the best to you.

My pleasure, I was going to try it out when I realized out of all the equipment I have here in my office I don't have an Apple USB Modem even to test with... (Note to self, requisition one.)

I was reading through the Parallels support forum just before reading your post and had just stumbled across that exact post that I was coming back to point you to, kind of ironic!

Hope it works well for you!

I don't think you yet understand. The drivers from Boot Camp will be of no use to you if you use Parallels. Your problem can only be resolved by Parallels. If you read the information provided by one of the other posters you will see that a solution has been proposed in one of the Parallels knowledge base articles.

Again, Parallels does not use nor need the Boot Camp drivers.

I wish I understood what you are talking about. What I told you was the facts of the matter, and your solution did indeed come from Parallels which is what I told you in the first place.

I am not a moderator. Your criticism is uncalled for. I gave you precisely the correct advice. You just refused to like the answer you got. I doubt you still understand.
