how so i gwt my sony camcorder HDR-SR7 to download to my MacBook Pro?

I just bought a new sony HDR-SR7 camcorder. After i plug the camera into my laptop, i don't get any response on the computer. The software that comes with the camera isn't compatible for a Mac. I can't seem to get any help from sony. I'm confident that the solution is simple. Has anyone been down this road before and therefore able to help?

macbook pro 15", Mac OS X (10.4), 2 G 512mb

I have this Handycam running with a Powerbook G4. The camera should appear as a seperate drive for you to drag n drop files. It will also open iPhoto.

You can convert your AVCHD files using Voltaic and then bring them into iMovie HD 6 for editing.

It is long winded but it is the only option unless you have an Intel Mac and iMovie 8
