Can I sync a new iPod to my existing iTunes library?

If anyone has experience with this, please help me out.

I'm replacing my old iPod with a fifth generation iPod video. When I connect my new iPod via USB, I'm assuming that my iTunes will not recognize the new device (you're only allowed to sync one iPod per iTunes account, right?). How do I reset my iTunes to sync up with a new iPod? And if you can have multiple iPods sync to one iTunes account, how do you do that? (I'm also getting a nano to use just for working out). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No iTunes is not limited to a single iPod. You can use multiple iPods on a single iTunes account and can even set each one up to sync in a different way. With the new iPod, all you have to do is plug it in and follow the directions to set it up. If it is big enough to sync your entire library, then you can have it auto update everything and everything will be put on the new iPod.
In addition, your old iPod will still continue to work fine with the iTunes account. And when you get your Nano, you can use that one as well although you might need to set it up to sync differently if your library is bigger than a Nano.

i'm trying to do this, but i don't have a disc wi my new ipod (had a nano, now got an ipod classic 80GB) and it keeps asking me to install the driver, but i already have the software? do i need to somehow register the serial number on itunes?

Newer iPods do not come with installation discs. You could try reinstalling iTunes. You don't have to register your serial number for it to work, it should just work. 🙂

i did think it was supposed to just work also! anyways i reinstalled itunes but that didn't work, my computer still keeps asking me to insert the disc and it won't give me any other options! HELP!

I just bought new 20 MG ipod to replace my current mini ipod model (more pragmatic than replacing battery life is only good for appox. 100 songs now).How would I go about transferring itunes & shared music files ?

Yes, it should just work. I'm currently syncing three iPods to the same iPod library. Do you have the most updated version of iTunes?

Also do I just plug the new 20 GB ipod in and sync or do I have preinstall the installion disc ( I have all info still in computer through my mini 6GB installed) or unstall the old disc from the mini.

yep i have the most up to date itunes, i just don't know whats wrong, but i have had this problem wi other things like trying to plug in a printer and it asks me for a disc

Well that sounds like a Windows problem rather than an iTunes or iPod problem. Sorry but I'm not qualified to help you there.
