My new Classic fits just about perfectly in the case I've been using with my 80 gig iPod video...except for something weird. The Classic can't seem to sense my finger rotating around the scroll wheel through whatever kind of plastic InCase uses to protect the scroll wheel. Button pushes work just fine, and the scroll wheel on the iPod Video has always worked just fine in the InCase case. What's changed about the scroll sensing on the Classic?

I don't have the answer, but I wanted to weigh in and say I have the same issues with the 160 GB classic and a DLO case.
The Classic's wheel is definitely less sensitive that the 5G series - I have to apply more pressure to get the same results. I think that's part of the reason why many people feel that it is more sluggish. That's probably why it's not responding through plastic - Did you try to press down HARDER?
I did, and it still didnt work. My 160gb wont work with the rubbery protector over the wheel either. Even out of the case it seemed like the wheel was a bit unresponsive. I was already considering returning this thing over the whole 3rd party incompatability issue, and now Im this close to actually doing so. If apple doesnt give me a reason to keep this stupid thing Im going to be off to the apple store very soon looking for my money back.
I didn't own a 5g iPod but: When you touch 2 spots on the classic's wheel at the same time, the wheel won't work. Just try it yourself: Put a finger on some spot on the wheel and then scroll anywhere else on the wheel - nothing happens (except for when both spots are real close together. then the wheel thinks you just have kind of a big thumb or something :D)
So maybe this is different from the 5g wheel? I mean this is exactly what happens with a plastic case, isn't it? If you push down the plastic, it touches the wheel not only on the spot where you push it down, but slightly touches it on one or several other spots.
Maybe that's not the solution, but maybe it is ^^

Ok guys, heres a weird update to this issue. Just now as I messed with my classic in its protective case I discovered that the scrolling does indeed work, but only in the upper left quadrant of the wheel. So for some reason only 1/4 of the wheel is responsive to my finger scrolling over it through the rubber protector. How weird is that? Anyone else get something like that?
I have the same problem with the clickwheel on my ipod classic, it's very unresponsive when I tried to scroll through the silicone skin I put over it. But the upper left quadrant of the wheel is in fact easier to scroll with. I have ordered the iskin evo4 duo case because it's suppose to have fixed that problem by using a very thin layer of silicone over the clickwheel. Hope it works.
Yet another thing apple expects me to shell out money for, I say again my older style case should work with this product and I shouldnt have to fork over another 35 bucks for a case that will "solve" the problem.
Classic's Scroll wheel works differently from iPod Video?
