Good luck
i want the iphone and i am an existing att customer. my question is: can i buy an iphone from apple.com use my existing $59.99 850mins shared family plan and activate the iphone without having to pay more for the iphone data plan ($20 for existing customers) if i don't want the visual voice mail and unlimited email and web?? right now i just want to use the internet (over just wi-fi) and ipod functions and still be able to make and receive calls. so again i don't want the unlimited email, internet, and visual voice mail now. so can i do this, is it possible??

I do not believe that this is possible however you would be better positioned for a answer by calling AT&T... I believe all users must select a data plan... but thats just my recollection... Give em a call

The $20/mo data plan is not optional - it is required for the iPhone - no if's and's or but's.
Again - Allan is correct.
The data plan HAS TO be included with iPhone activation.
Not sure if you can cancel it after the fact - I think I read something where you could...
But without data - WHY have an iPhone anyway??

You can't cancel the data plan only after the fact either without the entire contract being canceled and being charged the $175 ETF.
i just got done talking with Tech Support Chat and the rep said that i could. i just wouldn't have the unlimited email, internet, and visual voice. so i guess u can.
You will end up paying more than $20/mo as EDGE is accessed which can't be manually turned off on the iPhone.
I had the same plan and I just bought an I Phone on Saturday - during the activation process I had to call AT& T to makae my plan work with the I phone but the nice girl at AT&T gave me a plan that was $39.99 + the $20.00 data plan kept me at $59.99. Plus I now have 200 texct messages as opposed to my old plan had only 100
Hope this helps

Why would you buy the $39.99 + $20.00 more data plan when the unlimited iPhone data plan is only $40.00. Instead of a 100 message upgrade, you get an unlimited texting upgrade. Everything is unlimited. I've always bought PDA phones with AT&T(AT&T, Cingular, & yes, SBC Wireless) I'm an archaic customer. The only data plans I've ever been able to purchase, were the $49.99 unlimited internet and email access with no more than 1500 texting. Plenty of times, I over extended my text max, and had to pay. one time $85.00 extra. If you are a texter, go back and get the $40.00 unlimited plan. It's less expensive than what you have now and you can save your minutes for those more important to your life. Text the no-nos. That's just my opinion though. What works for one, may not work another. But as far as I care, more for less is always better than less for more.
