Error code - 8065

Hi,
I'm trying to put a .mov file from my desktop into a burn folder and the folder rejects it, and a dialog box pops up to say 'Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred (Error code - 8065)'
I also get the same result when I try to put the file into a regular folder.

What does this mean? Is this serious? Can I fix it?

eMac PPC G4, Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Where did the .mov file originally come from? Error code -8065 is associated with file copy errors to Windows platforms using the SMB service and was addressed back in the 10.4.2 update, so it's presence here in that context would be unexpected. That error also showed up in 10.4.1 when trying to move a file into an open folder which already contains an identically named file, but that again would be a surprisw since your profile shows 10.4.7. You may want to try installing the OS X Update Combo 10.4.10 (PPC) update and see if that resolves the problem. (Be sure to let the Mac complete the double startup after finishing the install.)

It was a divx file that was already in the folder. However, I decompressed the audio with Divx Doctor. The application placed it on my desktop with a different extension - .mov - and a notably varied heading. I was able to place the file into another folder. So I went back, trashed the unconverted file and was able to pt the file in question into the folder.

I am running 10.4.10. I always update OS X when a get a update notice.

Lately, my Mac has been a little buggy and bogged down. Yesterday I ran Disk Utility from the Install disc. Nothing needed fixing when I ran fix permissions and repair disk. I also ran Techtool from the disc, realized it wasn't current, installed Techtool and downloaded update. Ran Techtool again (even suface scan) and everything passed. I did a couple restarts, and thing seem better, but not quite right.

Today, when I logged on to this forum I got this -

Have no idea what this is.

I have been doing a fair amount of bittorrenting prior to yesterday and my machine was running round the clock for a few days. I also installed Miro, used it a couple times, decided I didn't like and trashed it. I don't know if this matters or not, but I thought I should include that. In Console I noticed a string of ....Stealth Mode connection attempt to UDP .... things from a number of different ips. Could this be the problem?

Thanks for your input JMVP!

The Java serlet error notice is a current hiccup in the Discussions software that's related to the exact version of Java installed; I've been seeing it on one of three computers I regularly use to access the Apple Discussions. Just hit the back button and you'll be logged on and can ignore the message.

Stealth mode UDP connection attempts are attempts to log onto your Mac over the Ethernet connection. Bit torrent software involves opening your firewall settings to allow your Mac to be used as part of the bit torrent network. You can go to System Preferences -> Sharing -> Firewall tab -> Advanced button and check the options for "Block UDP traffic" and "Enable Stealth Mode". That'll likely break the bit torrent capability; it's your Mac and your call if you want it open to whatever else is floating through the bit torrent space.

Thank You JMVP!

I noticed that Apple Discussions was down for maintenance earlier today. Perhaps Apple resolved the trouble at log in. I didn't have any when I logged in later.

I did what you suggested before I even posted my question. I found that I wasn't blocking UDP traffic. I am now! My Stealth Mode was enabled though. It seems that took care of the problem. My Console log is showing attempts denied now. I do still have a port open for Azureus client tho. Maybe I should close that too?

Reading your message loud and clear about bittorrent. I didn't think that would be a problem with a Mac, with all the immunity and all. Am I wrong? You think I should trash the torrent client and auxilliary files that came with the DL's too?

Macs are far safer than Windows, but they're not invulnerable (and no, I'm not going to pass on any details!). Keeping up to date with OS and security updates will keep a Mac reasonably safe. But, yes, I'd personally dump any sort of file sharing (other than LAN behind a NAT firewall), which includes bit torrent and music sharing software.
