Sound quality of the new classic?

Has anyone noticed a big change in the sound quality over the 5G video. My old 30G has a nice open soundstage, the 80G classic I bought sounds confined for lack of a better word and not as warm as the older iPod. I also had to turn the volume up higher on the classic than I would have on the 5G to get the same sound volume. That along with the slow response times made me dash back to the Apple store and return it. The store's help seemed clueless about any issues.

I've heard the new classic. Seriously speaking, it sounds easily as good as the 5G. I cannot really trust some of the comments here myself. Many people have a bad habit of reading bad comments about a new product, then listening to it and IMAGINE the problem to exist. The 3G and 4G iPods are easily the worst iPods ever made, so personally I cannot agree with those of you who insists that the 4G sounds better than the 6G.

Changing the sample rate to 48 kHz is only a waste of space. The sample rate on a CD is 44.1 kHz. Also, Apple Lossless is far superior to AIFF as it uses data compression to make the audio file smaller at no loss of quality. AIFF doesn't have this feature, you will end up with a massive bit rate of 1411kb/s as opposed to about 900 for Apple Lossless.

I have an old ipod mini - the sound quality is far better than the iPod classic 160 I bought last week. Also, the volume output from the Classic is much lower.

I bought the 160 to supplement my iRiver H320, which has great sound quality but also suffers from low volume output.

Where can I log my dissatisfaction with Apple? Is there a customer satisfaction link somewhere? I'm in the UK.

By the way - the ipod mini also allowed me to manage files with something other than iTunes (Winamp), at the moment the Classic will not let me do that - the database seems to get corrupted.

I do not dispute that some people think the Classic sounds bad (or worse than some models). What I can say is that I do not detect any such problems. My initial impression was that it was the best sounding iPod I have had (had original 30GB and Photo 60GB). I also note that many people say the sound was terrible on the Photo, but I didn't have any complaints about that one either.
