How to set up Qwest/MSN email in Mail

I recently signed up with Qwest for their Broadband internet service and it works fine. MSN is the actual provider so my new email apparently has to go through them, but am having a difficult time. I'm getting the feeling that this effort may be all for naught. Qwest won't assist setting up email on Mac mail, but they gave me the credentials.

I've entered POP incoming mail server, the smtp server, and my new email and password, but always get an error. I currently have an Earthlink account using Mail, set up on the same computer and it works great.

Has anyone else set this up in the Rocky Mtn region with Qwest? Does anyone know if it's possible?

Thanks for any input out there.

On my earthlink account, SSL is turned off and Port is set for 587. I'm trying to "Add Account". I've set it for a POP account, enter email address, user name, password, and incoming mail server. It then tries to find the server and I get this message:

+The POP server “pop.live.com” is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the “Incoming Mail Server” field. If it still doesn’t respond, the server might be temporarily unavailable.+

+If you continue, you may not be able to receive any email.+

So I went ahead and continue to set it up, and get the same message after entering the smtp server, but it has established the account set up. For this account, it set up port 25 with ssl off. If I try to send an email, it gives me an error message that the selected server is unavailable (sorry I don't have the exact text here for this one).

Hopefully this gives you a better idea. Thanks.
