Panasonic NV-GS55 won't Import / Connect

Does anyone know why my corder won't connect. I have both the Firewire and USB cables. If I use the USB it mounts onto my desktop where I can pull off anything stored in my SD Card. However iMovie just refuses to recognise it. Now this did used to connect OK before they released the HD version of iMovie. Is it possible to run an older version alongside the newer one?

Any help at all is much appeciated.

Hi

Not knowing the exact Camera - It should export/import to iMovie OK - BUT
You need to use the FireWire Cable. USB will not do - at all.

Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:

Five most common steps are:

• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disc if it is less than 10Gb should raher have 25Gb
• Hard disc is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disc (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Delete iMovie pref file - or rather start a new account - log into this and re-try
• Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK
• Program miss-match: iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.10 AND QuickTime 7.2 - is OK

extra: Try Your Camera on another Mac - so it is OK
FireWire Cable usually is a problemmaker. Test another one.

To start with. If still in trouble - keep in contact for my killer long trouble shooting list.

Thanks for the reply Bengt. I can answer a few of these first off.

The camera is around 3 years old so it's hardly a relic. I sussed the USB cable wouldn't work, I was just stating that the cameras SD Drive would mount onto the Desktop. I have another FW cable which I will bring into work tomorrow.

• Free space - i have 150GB so not a problem
• HD tidy - Repaired permissions a few weeks ago and ran Disc Utility as well. won't harm doing it again tho.
• Programs - OSX4.10, iMovie 6.0.3, QT Pro 7.1.6

I'll work on the rest of the checklist later, I just wanted to keep this close to the top!

Thanks

Hi I also have a Mac Pro and a Panasonic NV-GS55 and I cant get it to connect. It works fine with my mini and Mac Book. I have contacted apple support for 3 hours to be told that i would have to update the firm ware on the GS55. Panasonic have no updates!

What you are suggesting is what Apple told me to do along with along with other resets.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

T.
