MIDI problems

I have a yamaha psr 225gm keyboard (http://www.usersmanualguide.com/yamahaaudio/electronic_keyboards(portatone-portasound)/psr-225gm), a powerbook g4 running garageband 3 (mac os 10.4), and E-MU EM8780 Professional USB Bus powered Midi Interface with 1 in 1 out (http://www.amazon.com/EM8780-Professional-powered-Interface-Indicator/dp/B000JLU 26W/ref=pdbbs1/104-9703533-9612702?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1189197493&sr=8-1). I've tried everything I can think of to get the keyboard to work with garageband but nothing is happening. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

PowerBook G4, Mac OS X (10.4.5)

This is very basic so you probably had it check but just in case:

do you have input for your keybord in "audio and midi configuration", that's an application in the utility folder.
If you have install the driver for your midi interface you should see it there.
(You usually don't need driver for the keybord)
Add your keybord, make the conection between the 2 icons device.
And test it with the test config button it will change your mouse to note, click with that on
the keybord device and your keybord should play some note.
And if you play on your keybord you should had something blink on the icon too.

hey,
thanks for all of your help! i haven't disappeared.
so i tried everything you guys said but it still doesn't work. in garage band preferences and midi set up it recognizes a midi device but on the cable and computer it doesnt recognize the keyboard. i think this might be because in the keyboard user manual it said i needed a RS444 connection or something like that, which my computer doesn't have. Instead, I bought a USB cable with a MIDI interface. Do you think this is what the problem is? Do I need to return my cable?

I'm not sure I follow you, my english is not as good as I would want it to be.

I just made a clean install of my OS so I'm recetting my midi keybord, so I will do it and
put every thing I did here.

First I install the interface driver that I got from there web site (to have the most up to date one).
I use an Edirol US-1S (1 in, 1 out).

After install I open audio midi setup, in midi I see my interface, but not my keybord.
I add periferic?? (ajouter périférique).
It made appear an keybord desingned icon, I double click it to edit it.
(I just put name and model, for simple use you don't need more edit)

Look over the icon there is arrow sape desing they represent the in and the out.
Plug them as you would plug a normal midi cable (out goes in in, and in goes in out)

After that test cofig like I mention I my other post it should work.
(When you play on your keybord in test config. mode the computer should make
noice for each note you press)

If it don't work look if you got the cable plug right.
I put tape on one cable so I don't confuse them.
