Just got my iPod Touch this afternoon. Was very excited and immediately started testing everything on it. However, I was very disappointed with the way it displays blacks and dark images in video and photos. A friend's iPhone didn't seem to have this problem. Saw a thread in the iPhone forums where someone complained and another person said theirs looked great. Did I get a bad unit? Anyone else experiencing this? Thanks for replies.

I sent this letter to steve@apple.com and steve@mac.com. I forget which one is the correct address. This is Part 1 (too big to post together)

Dear Mr. Jobs

I purchased an iPod Touch 16gb at the 5th Avenue Apple Store last night in NYC.
While the device itself is amazing, it seems to have a glaring issue.

Firstly let me just link you to a large discussion thread about this
issue on Apple's Discussion forums:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1131324&tstart=0

Many users are reporting that the iPod Touch can not properly display
black. Any image on the iPod Touch screen that is dark, such as a dark
scene in a movie, comes out almost completely washed out, and all
details are lost. This happens in movies, coverflow album art,
pictures, and even on dark colored websites.

A picture is worth a thousand words, so I have found a few pictures
posted by another used on ilounge.com, and I think these really
explain what the issue is:

As you can see, the blacks are washed out, and all detail is lost, in
the first picture, the scene is almost unwatchable.

Yeah, that's a bummer.
I feel bad for you guys, I'm getting one and I admit, I'm nervous.
But, when the PSP came out, I got a perfect one and many of my friends got ones with loads of dead pixels.
It happens. Devices are made in such a fast production schedule these days that the rush to beat the other guys means that some of each run are going to be DOA.

Good luck getting it replaced.

Here are some of my pictures of my own iPod Touch:

Notice again that the blacks are completely washed out, and bleed on
to the other colors.

In fact, it looks like I am looking at an LCD at a horrible viewing
angle, but this is not the case as I am looking at it straight on.

I have a reservation tomorrow with the apple store to exchange my ipod
for another, but since many people are reporting this problem, I have
a feeling that until you personally step up and find out why so many
ipod Touch's are coming out with such faulty screens, it will only
continue.

Please help me and all the other users who really just want to enjoy
their iPod Touch, thank you.
