Self-assigned IP address in hotel room - HELP!

This is a recent problem for me. When I travel and stay in hotel rooms that have wifi access, my Macbook picks up the signal fine but I keep getting self-assigned IP addresses. I've tried hitting the "renew DHCP lease" button more times that I can count, but no luck. I've also tried restarting my computer - no luck,

I then tried configuring the DHCP manually, but I really don't know what I am doing so that didn't work either.

My colleagues with Windows machines have no problem.

Can someone tell me what I am doing (or not doing) wrong so that I can make good use of the free internet at Marriotts and Hilton Garden Inns?

Thanks much.

This would indicate that the network you are connecting to does not have a router configured properly. Make sure that the wireless network (under the airport icon in the menu bar) being utilized is the hotel's network. As a frequent guest at HIlton Garden Inns, my experience is that their wireless logon systems (and lots of others) perform more reliably with Firefox than with Safari. I often use Firefox for the initial login, then Safari after that.

Ok, i have exactly the same problem. i've tried everything (ok, that isn't very much) but it didn't work.
At some cafés and hotelrooms it works without any problem but at some places i get the "self-assigned IP-adress" info. the signal is fine but my macbook won't connect to the internet.
it's driving me crazy... help anyone?! 🙂
