Accidentally disconnected without ejecting and now iTunes freezes w/iPod

I thought I had hit the 'eject' to dismount my iPod (the kind with video) but apparently I hadn't. I turned it on and suddenly it was empty and my computer flashed the "improperly disconnected without being ejected" type of message. I reset the iPod and plugged it back in. First my computer didn't detect it. I rebooted. Now my computer detects the iPod, but iTunes can't and it freezes iTunes (I guess it's trying to connect to the iPod or something). What do I do?

Thanks!
