Software update cannot upgrade to 7.41

When I launch iTunes, I get the prompt to download 7.41. I click OK and the SoftwareUpdate module loads with 7.4.1 and SoftwareUpdate 2.02. I click to Install 2 Items and I immediately get a prompt saying "Your software is up to date". However, I can confirm that I'm still running the old version of the software (7.3.2.6). SoftwareUpdate usually crashes at this point.

I'm hesitant to uninstall and reinstall, given the numerous problems people are having with 7.4.1. Any thoughts? iTunes is runnign just fine as 7.3.2.6.

Am I right to assume that you have the same problem I do? You run Windows 2000, and that is the latest version for Windows 2000. 7.41 is only for Vista and XP. I have to work on 2000. All of my music files and everything is on this machine. It is absolutely crazy that I'd have to upgrade my operating system just to be able to use my new 160G iPod Classic. Do you think that apple finally will give in and send a patch for us, 2000 users to be able to use our iPod? I am very upset about it right now.

Nope, I'm running WinXP Pro. I'm prompted every week to upgrade to the latest version of iTunes, I accept, the Software Updater shows the two updates (to iTunes and the Software Updater itself), and when I click Install, it immediately tells me that the software has been updated, then crashes.

Fun!

And, no, I'm not uninstalling and reinstalling ANYTHING. Nice try.
