2 phones one family plan but two data plans?

Wife and i each have an iphone. We are on new $109 family plan. Guys at apple retail store say thats all we need that data plan covers two phones only extra if hit three phones then need another $20 data for third phone.
Pamphlet at store seems to back them up.

At&t phone reps say we need seperate $20 data plan for each phone!

Thoughts? Who is correct? Who should i speak to if apple guys are right?

I've been looking at the family plans (http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/specials/iPhoneCenter.html), and the the $109 plan includes two iPhones with 700 shared minutes. I think you have two data plans, and don't realize it. A rough equivalent for an individual plan would be $79. To make it a family plan, you have to add the extra line for $10, and also the data plan for $20 because it's an iPhone. That brings it to $109.

Ok, I have to amend my original post. I just went to look at the rate plans, and it looks to me like the iPhone Family Talk plan set up might actually share it's Data Plan as well. I'm an existing customer, so was basing my original post on the knowledge I had. It may be that ATT was confused like I was. I think you'll be ok.

You are a new ATT customer right?

Lets stop playing guessing games
This is from the Apple iPhone web page

*Price reflects one line(that would be 80 minimum 60+20). A minimum of two lines are required. Additional iPhone lines are $29.99 each. Family plans for two iPhones start at $109.99. Additional SMS text messages can be added to any plan.

Minimum new 2-year wireless service plan and activation fee required to activate iPhone features, including iPod; plans are subject to AT&T credit approval.

Were you an existing ATT user, or new. See I can only base my knowledge on what I know as an existing customer. I'm on the $89 dollar Family plan, but have 3 lines (mine is the only iPhone). When I looked at the breakdown of Family Plans For new customers on the iPhone page they had a Family Plan that was $109, and it had the $20 data plan incorporated into it. Atleast that's how it looked to me.

I am still rather confused..

so are we saying it is $109 but the $109 INCLUDES the extra $20 data plan? So I am actually paying it but not paying $109 + extra $20?

from AT&T's website: Get iPhone for every member in the family. Plans start at $109.99 for two iPhone lines and include Visual Voicemail and Unlimited Data—email and web—and 200 SMS text messages (you can add more text messages for a little more a month). Additional iPhone lines (up to 3 more) are $29.99 each. Additional non-iPhone lines are $9.99 each.

ARGH

This is what your bill should look like:

$109.00
Family voice plan for 2 iPhones - This is the charge for voice minutes only.

$9.99
Extra voice line for 2nd iPhone - This is the charge for the second iPhone to share voice minutes.

$20.00
Data plan for 1st iPhone

$20.00
Data plan for 2nd iPhone

Taxes, surcharges, 911 fees, etc will also be charged.

I've been a long time AT&T Wireless customer - any data package is on a per line basis. Only voice minutes are shared amongst family plans. Texting for your second line will need to be added because these minutes are not shared either - AT&T can really get you here.

Hope this helps.

Frank, I am in the same situation as you are. My husband and I both have iPhones under a family plan (1400 shared minutes). This might help, I just studied my itemized AT&T Wireless bill...

For the main number, the rate plan charge (for the entire family plan but charged to this one number only) is $80 (which is basically the main charge for the plan we have, if you have fewer minutes, this would be less in your case). That includes the basic features (call forwarding, call waiting, caller ID, etc). Under "Other Services," I have a host of feautures such as Anytime Minutes, Rollover, etc but they all cost 0.00. There is one feature that costs $20, entitled "iPhone Data + 200" (the 200 being the 200 included text messages that come with the iPhone data plan). My line itself costs a total of $100, not including taxes, etc.

When I scroll down to the charges for my husband's number, he has a 9.99 charge under "Monthly Service Charges" and the item specifies it's a secondary line. He also has the $20 charge under "Other Services" for "iPhone Data +200." So his line, before taxes, etc costs $29.99.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions about the bill and I"ll be happy to compare it against my bill.

the way the plans are advertise the prices are combined but when you look at the bill and the calling plans they are seperate add both figues together and you get the price of the advertisement.

example your probably on the 700 rollver min which is 69.99 60 for main line and 9.99 additional lines.

your main line will be 60 + 20 iphone plan =80.00
your add line is 9.99 + 20 iphone plan = 29.99

Total comes out to 109.99

so if you add another line is 9.99 for additional line + 20 iphone =29.99

there are not iphone fam plans currently with att

hope that helps

David
