iMac Freezing Problem

i know how you feel. As i've said in other posts, since iMac update 1.1, my mac has been freezing during random "graphical" tasks, such as moving an icon, or rolling onto the DOCK. Once i move onto something at some random time during the session im on the computer, all of a sudden around that icon or picture, all these little fragmented pixels will appear, and BOOM. the mouse moves, but it might as well be moving on a blank screen because NOTHING works.

Cmon apple, let's release iMac update 1.2, or let us roll back to 1.0.
hopefully i'll be able to use my beautiful mac again. :]

My iMac doesn't freeze now when I open iTunes or FrontRow. But it still freezes when I am running iPhoto. Other iLive or iWork softwares don't freeze down the iMac. This is the further information of my iMac.

Experienced similar situation recently after installing the update. Tried re-install but erace everything from the DVDs, I have the lovely and nice iMac back. It is quite obvious about the bug of this update.

similar problem here after installng bootcamp 1.4 and software update 1.1, what do we need to do, formar and reinstall the OS X without last software update?

That's exactly what I did and now everything's cool again.
Just don't install the 1.1 software update....instead search around the forum here & locate a copy of 1.0 software update & install that instead.

I don't think Apple will officially give the option of reverting back to the V1.0 update. Lets not forget that a lot of people had problems with that version too. And many folks like me, have problems with both versions.

The fact the the graphics barely worked at all with no updates, suggests that Apple/ATI rushed the iMac job.
I hope we dont have to wait another month just to see if iMac update V1.2 works or not :/

Since I got my new iMac it freezes all the time, especially when I open Dashboard or Maya. The screen stops except the mouse moves, and I can still ssh in, but in the end it requires the plug being pulled.

Wow, all this talk about iMac freezes sure confuses the issue on what to purchase. Seems like the Mac Mini might be slow due to 5400 rpm drives and shared video memory, but its still faster than a frozen computer.

Of course, my motive is to be able to get faster results from iMovie and iDVD than my G4 provides. Since I hear-tell iMovie 08 requires a download of iMovie 06 if "You Tube" isn't your target, I guess I'll just stick with my slow but reliable G4 using iMovie 06.

Perhaps things will look better after Leopard 10.5.10 in a couple years.

I can just sadly confirm all these issues. Its insane. My iMac freezes over and over again. The installation is default. With all updates available. I bought a iMac to get rid of all **** that my PC had, but i never ever had this much problem with a computer.

The freezes accour frequently. Sometimes when i play World of Warcraft, sometimes when i am just listningen to iTunes, sometimes when i work in Photoshop and sometimes when i just do nothing. I have tried to install boot camp with Windows XP Pro - but the freezes accour even here. So its not a OS-problem. I think, after reading many posts about it, that it is related to the graphic card and the drivers available.

Does anyone know if Apple are working on an update?

You all REALLY NEED to call in and tell them about this. Everyone gets phone-support for the first 90 days, so please, call Apple and tell them these new iMacs are freezing. Be specific — the mouse moves, but I can't do anything, etc.

It's very important that we do more than just talk about this online. We have GOT to get Apple aware of the problem.

Oh, I'm sure Apple is aware of the issue. I can't be the only new Aluminum iMac user that has already been on the phone with AppleCare (3 times, all under same case#) and submitted feedback e-mails (2 of them) to Apple on the problem related to iMac V1.1. It's all the same report...random screen freezes with mouse still moving, artifacts on screen then freeze, black screens, etc. all necessitating a manual shut down and restart.

I can tell you that the tech I spoke to a AppleCare today did indicate Apple is aware of the problem and is working to address it. Hopefully that means a V1.2 is not far off...and that the drivers for the AT Radeon graphic cards are carefully tested by Apple before the update is made available to us.

My iMac is freezing too. Always when I play World of Warcraft. When I relaod the game after a hard boot, all my Interface options settings in the game are set to default. Its annoying.

I tried to reinstall the OS with skipping the update 1.1.
I had graphic bug in the game like this.

I tried a lot of things to make it ok, but it's only when I installed the update 1.1 that it returned to normal...

So we have the choice (oh, i'm so happy) between frequent freezing (with preference reset) or graphic bug...
Hmmm... and what if Apple wake up and release a new update to solve that? Should be nice.

Sorry about the cross post. Called Applecare this morning about the freeze issue. They stated that they had not heard of the problem. They asked me to reset the PRAM and SMC. I was asked if I had opted for the upgraded video card. After telling her that I didn't know there was an upgrade option for this particular iMac. She checked, said "uh-oh". She then said to take the unit to an Apple Store, where, according to them, it depends on the particular store whether or not they can repair it. Hopefully they can.

It just crashed again using Maya.

I'll get back with more info after my Apple Store visit tomorrow night. Couldn't get in sooner unless I opted for the extra $100 optimum membership. Starting to feel a little worked over by these guys.

My problem was fixed by reverting to the old version of the iMac update... I found it here!
