iPod classic 160GB skipping songs

I bought a new 160GB iPod only four days ago. I've noticed a couple of problems:

1) When playing a playlist, the iPod will sometimes skip a song. For example, when song 1 is finished, it will play song 3. It skips only some songs, but they are always the same ones. The songs played perfectly on my 80GB 5.5G. Unless I manually select them, they won't play along in the playlist. I've tried restoring and I updated to 1.0.1 but it didn't help.

2) I noticed the battery meter jumps all over the place when selecting different things on the iPod, especially videos. One second it was 3/4 full, the next it was 1/4, then back to half, thten it goes back to normal. Maybe it was doing that because it's a new battery, but I did calibrate it last night (fully discharge and fully charge) so maybe that fixed it. Haven't tried it yet. But has anyone else encountered this?

My iPod Classic 80G is doing something similar. At times it will not play the selected song from the list. For example, I am in the podcast directory for a video podcast and I select the Sept. 19, 2007 episode. The iPod queues up and plays the Sept. 18,2007 instead. I exit out and go back to the directory and reselect the Sept. 19, 2007 episode; Sept. 18, 2007 episode plays again. I normally have to restart the iPod in order for the desired podcast episode to play.

This also occurs with music. I select Track One and track three begins to play. Reselect track One and track three plays again.

I am running iPod Classic software 1.0.1

Skipping is happening to me too when listening to the iPod Classic 160Gb. Repeatable, only some songs, but enough to be frustrating. Accessing the files directly from the iPod using WinAmp (just recursively adding all mp3 files and sorting by title, forget the other stuff they can do) the files play fine. In my case all the files are mp3s ripped using Real Player v10 at 128kbps or 96kbps constant rate. Exact same files would play fine on my old 5.5G 80Gb w/ video.

I got an 80GB iPod classic and it skips songs too. As someone else posted, it is always the same songs in the same places, and it seems to happen every 4 or 5 songs. Extremely annoying! These same tracks play fine on my old non-iPod MP3 player. I ripped them a long time ago with RealPlayer using VBR 160Kbps. I'm about ready to send the thing back.

I just bought a 80Gb Classic ipod and it's skips through songs alot before they are even half way through playing. It's real annoying and we reckon it's a software fault. My partner has a Ipod nano which has also started doing the same thing since we plugged it into the same Itunes version 7.4.3.1

So we have scrubbed the classic and have synced it with itunes V 7.4.1.2
I am going to listen to it now (on a long drive) and will let you know if this fixes it...

on my 160GB I have the same exact problem on skipping songs after playing only a couple of seconds. Songs play fine on ITUNES or on my 5G IPOD. So far I've only noticed a few and all are 192CBR mp3 files. Not random, as once a song is a "skipper" it always skips. All the usual steps (resync, remove and re-add to library, etc. etc. don't solve problem. Has to be some sort of firmware issue I suspect in maybe error handling for files. Perhaps these files work fine in most players through error handling in the software but have a glitch that throws the classic off....

I to am having this same track skipping fault on my 80gb Classic, which i got about a week ago. Random tracks in my libary, but always the same ones, partially play then skip to next track. Which is really annoying when im trying to listen to audiobooks. Do Apple give a list of fixes when they upgrade the software for itunes? and does the itunes 7.4.3 upgrade fix this issue??
