iPod Touch, YouTube and proxy issues

One thing I noticed tonight working with the iPod Touch:

We have a wireless network with a router and a proxy server, and the YouTube application abhors the proxy server.

Several sub-functions on it access the following address:
http://iphone-wu.apple.com/feeds/standardfeeds/..yadayada...

to pull a list of videos to display in the application. This fails when going through the proxy server and displays "YouTube not Available". Videos already displayed in the YouTube application still play fine. The logs report a 404 error for the "feed" URL.

Going into the network settings and turning off or overriding the proxy causes everything to work fine. Safari works fine no matter if the proxy is on or off - but Safari loads pages much faster when it's on.

I'm just reporting this for others who may have similar issues.

Hey, thanks for posting. Yeah, I have the same problem. Everything works fine except youtube is bugging me. It worked fine last night...but now it says "youtube not available" whenever I try to use the youtube app. I have my wireless router hooked up and safari works great, so I can't understand why youtube wouldn't work all the sudden.
I also noticed how I could view a couple videos in my "history" folder. That's just so annoying. Apple is starting to annoy me lately. I've been one of their loyal customers for so long and I've never disliked them so much. I mean, the calendar app is crippled, apple hasn't released any cases for the ipod touch, and now this! I sent in a complaint today...I asked them to give an update for the iPod touch so the calendar app will allow us to enter calendar events from your iPod touch.
The only thing I can think of is youtube is having problems. But that still doesn't explain it very well, because youtube works fine on my desktop computer.
I don't know. Let me know if you find anything out.

Why would the youtube app work for me yesterday and the day before but now throws up "YouTube not Available" on my ipod touch, I haven't changed any settings either on the ipod or wireless router?

Looking around the forums a lot of UK ipod touch owners are having the same problem where they can't connect to youtube but previously could.

It is odd though that there are a couple of videos in my history that will play and you can see they are streaming the data to the ipod, just can't connect to see any new material.

The YouTube application on the iPhone and iPod Touch are not always connecting directly to YouTube. The connect to the host iphone-wu.apple.com and grab a list of videos based on your search criteria (or preset ones like most popular, etc).

This URL is run by Apple, and if it is down, you get the "YouTube not available" message. The actual videos displayed link directly to google's video servers so this is why you can (for instance) not be able to search YouTube but still play videos displayed on the screen.

My proxy issues seem to have resolved themselves after reconfiguring Squid on my router/proxy. All is fine now.
