New Mac book, packet loss on existing 802.11B network

I have a G4 iMac LCD, and it has an Apple Airport (B) car installed and has been working flawless (last 2 years) with a D-link D--614+ wireless router.

Bought a Mac Book with (10.4.10) on Friday Sept 14'th, and have nothing but slow, problematic connections with the pre-installed airport card.

The lap top is in the exact same location as the imac, but it is getting anywhere from 20-80% packet loss all the time, using network utility. I have never got a 0% packet loss, when the imac always shows 0% loss.

I spent all weekend, changing channels, relocating everything, jumping on one foot, and praying to the 802.11 Gods, but nothing fixed it. I have resorted to connecting a cable from the laptop to the router, which solved the packet loss problem, but turned it into a very small desktop computer.

Looking here, some have reported problems with 10.4.10.

I will update the router firmware later tonight, and report it solved, but my $$$ sits with no...

Looking for recommendations.
Should I go to the Apple store, and have them diagnose it?
Should I but a new router?
Should I try to backdate to 10.4.9 even though it came w/ 10.4.10?
Any other options,

Thanks,
Spinner

It's not your router - it's 10.4.10 that's causing your issues.

Going to 10.4.9 is best for now - but i don't believe you can go down from your install of .10 - i could be wrong about that.

I'd just suggest waiting for 10.4.11 - due anytime now - it's supposed to be fixed in that release - but I'm running .11 (151) and still seeing it, but this is pre-release software. According to our resident Mac dude who works with Apple, they're aware of this Airport issue. So, I guess there's hope.
