Very slow CD disk read speed, if at all
I bought my MBP in at the beginning of July after the hardware revision (2.2GHz 15.4'), with Vista installed on it. It has had no problems reading from CDs (fast, making the normal spinning noises) until a few days ago. I first noticed this problem when I was installing Warcraft III (onto OSX) from a very old and scratched CD last week. I disregarded the problem, thinking it was the disk, and since it installed the expansion (a newer and cleaner disk) at reasonable speed. Now, when I try to install/read from any CD-ROM (there is no problem with DVDs or burnt CDs) the speed will be extremely slow in both OSX and Vista. Also it would not be able to read the contents from certain CD (old and brand new ones--I tried to drag and drop files from the CD to the hard drive, always get stuck, or if I tried to create a dmg, it would show an I/O error), although it can still show the list of files in on it. I've also noticed a lack of spinning noises when I inserted the disks (quite unlike the loud noises produced when reading a CD-R or DVD). The only system items that I've recently installed are the updates, iTunes 7.4.1 and 7.4.2, and the updates for Windows, although I don't suppose any of it could be the culprit. Any help/tips/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I'd like to try somethings on my own before having to call Apple and potentially send it back for repairs.
Thanks in advance
